Mounting optics on a non-free float rail

I have an A1 rifle, thinking of getting a rail so I can mount opics on it. I know it is recommended to put optics on a free-float rail. However, what if I mount the optics on something like Troy MRF DI or MI 2 piece rail? Since they lock up solid what could be some downsides, if any?

The downside is it won’t hold zero. Since the rail does not free float, it could shift or you could unintentionally alter the point of impact by putting pressure on the forend. Your best option is probably a gooseneck type mount that will attach to your carry handle.

huh? what kind of optic are you thinking of, btw?

I meant “not recommended”. I am thinking of putting an aimpoint M2.
How much pressure would it be necessary to move the POI, though? One can just as easily move POI by pulling on a VFG that is attached to a non ff rail, etc…

Why not use a DD Omega?

Or the Gooseneck mount?

I’ve seen Aimpoint goosenecks mounts lightly used for $25

Why mount an optic to a forend if you do not have to.

I wouldn’t mount optics on any railed forend if possible. Especially a non FF.
