Memphis Police report that investigators interviewed a child who witnessed the shooting. Investigators allegedly learned that the victim came in through the back door of the home at around 1 a.m. after the child invited him.

Memphis Police report that Scott arrived at the home at around 1:30 a.m. and began “loudly knocking at the front door and yelling, ‘Who’s at my house?’” The child allegedly told investigators that she was scared of Scott because Scott had previously threatened to shoot any boy she saw at the home.

According to Memphis Police, the child told officers that Scott found the victim hiding under a bed and shot him as he was leaving the home. Memphis Police report that the victim did not have a weapon.

A witness allegedly told investigators that he saw the victim lying near the front porch of the home and heard Scott saying, “I shot him, I shot him.”

A let him in the back door of the Home. Mom came home, knew something was up and found him under her Juvinile Daughters Bed.

Good Shoot for Me.

Notice No One wanted to mention the Girls Age?

That gives me pause. I think our gut reaction is to be all right with a mother shooting a potential pedophile rapist, if that is what happened. But is it? There are some oddities here,

Investigators allegedly learned that the victim came in through the back door of the home at around 1 a.m. after the child invited him.

If the “child” is a 17-year-old teen inviting a 19-year-old guy man into her room, that is a lot different than a middle-aged man stalking an 11-year-old girl. Actually, the article does not seem to mention the child’s sex, so we are being sexist by assuming it was a girl. Maybe a teenage boy was hitting Grinder for a match? Playing devil’s advocate here - odds are it was a girl.

Memphis Police report that Scott arrived at the home at around 1:30 a.m. and began “loudly knocking at the front door and yelling, ‘Who’s at my house?’”

That suggests that mom was out at night, arriving home at 1:30 AM. So, why was the child left alone? Was Mom working that night, or out drinking? Again, the age of the child is significant - if a 10-year-old was left alone that is way different than a 16-year-old.

And why is Mom knocking at her own door and yelling?

The child allegedly told investigators that she was scared of Scott because Scott had previously threatened to shoot any boy she saw at the home.

Not good optics for the trial if your child is scared of you, and that you threatened to shoot “any boy” at the home. Is this a case of a daughter bringing a string of guys around? Does Mom just hate men in general?

Scott found the victim hiding under a bed and shot him as he was leaving the home

Well, as we all know here from our CHL training, if the “victim” of the shoot is fleeing then it does not usually justify a shoot - as it is not really self-defense at that point.

Now, don’t get me wrong - this guy quite possibly needed to be shot. But the news article is so sparse on the facts that it is hard to know what happened just from reading it.

What exactly happened is unclear, and the news story does little to clear it up. The press is so worried about casting aspersions on the child or the deceased that the article is practically useless. Mom may not be guilty of murder, but the media should be charged with sloppy reporting.

Edited to add: Did some Google-Fu and found this article, which does stipulate that the child was her daughter. ‘I shot him’: Memphis woman charged in fatal shooting of man hiding under bed

Edited some more: Found an article that claims the girl was 13 and the guy 20. If that is true, I can see why Mom wanted to shoot him - but that does not make it a legal shoot.

That leads me to believe that Mom had a pretty good idea her Daughter might be having promiscuous sex.

I would imagine that the daughter locked the door so that her Mother couldn’t enter and find her bedding her Beau.

Maybe Mom work 4 to 1’s and was coming home from work?

This is certainly a likely scenario. In fact, you would probably be safe putting some money on it.

At the risk of sounding judgmental, it makes me wonder if 20-year-old Rodderius Morton has a string of teenage baby-mommas out floating around Memphis.

Saw a report that the Daughter was 13.

Rodderious? Sheeeeet….that mofo ain’ got no baby mommas! Bitch be trippin’. His own momma says “My baby dindu nuffin’”.

Yeah, I finally found that too - took about 3 different articles before that tidbit appeared.

Like I said - an understandable shoot - but probably not a legal one.

I know what you mean but, I think it depends where it happens; She would likely get a pass here in Central Texas. He’s way too old for that Girl and He knows it, He’s in someones House without permission and I don’t believe the Daughter can leaglly give permission to enter.

A couple of years back we had a rash of catalytic conveter thefts, there was a Guy sitting in his House who heard some noise coming from his driveway, He went outside and shot one of the theives crawling out from under his work truck and I do believe he walked.

I will say this though, It totally Depends on what that man was wearing, because if had a three piece suit with a Bible in his hand, that’s one thing. if He had on nothing but a smile and a boner in his hand, She will walk.

Time for some good old fashioned jury nullification!
