Mossberg w/surefire fore-end

I’m gonna need some help on this. I’m pretty sure I own a 621LF however I can only find patent markings and a model number on the light which could be irrelevant. Either way the patent is 4777754 4856218 6345464 I believe this patent covers all their shotgun weapon lights though so still not sure where I can locate a model besides the box (not sure where I put it) I also believe I purchased an LED upgrade head for this so I could have an upgraded 621FA model at this point I’m not sure.

At first glance you may see no problems. However look closely at the front of the fore-end, its called an action slide tube nut. This shotgun is pictured with the forend to the rear, though it can be moved forward to cover this nut. The fore-end travels about an inch either way rather an inch total from one end to the other. I have looked around and seen hints that the action slide assembly for the 500a is different from the 500. From what I can tell surefire does not produce a model for the 500a and this is why I have this travel. I will probably be in touch with sure fire and perhaps mossberg to figure this out, though my last options will be to order a shorter action slide assembly (since it will work) or drop it off with my gunsmith. Sure would be nice if we could get some surefire folks aboard our informed forum

btw my google fu gave me this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081223105620AAK3SDM and this may at least get my dialog with surefire started. At any rate I’ll post progress or fixes for anyone looking for answers to this question.

The 621 is for the 14" model 590s. The Mossberg 500 you have pictured or standard 590A1 needs a 623 forend:
Standard

NFA

Due to the diffderance in how Mossberg elected to set up their barrels. To prevent swapping their NFA 14" barrel onto 590A1’s or 835’s for that matter, the barrel lug is farther back on the barrel/mag tube. The result is the NFA Mossbergs use a shorter forend then a non NFA model. Thus you have the play in your set up.

I can get you a forend for the 14" model if you need one, or you can trade with someone?

The 500a is simply a 12 ga model 500, commonly called a 500. The 500a, b, c, d, e simple denote gauge.

It seams the 621 models are for the 6 1/2" action tube and the 623 models are for 7 5/8" tube for anyone needing this info. The tube measurement is made from “with the nut off from the base of the wide part all the way at the bottom end to the edge of the tube with the threads”
So after talking with surefire it was decided I have a 621FA model and do need a 623FA model. Now the search begins for someone to trade :frowning:

thanks for your help DMR you did help push me in the right direction

I wonder if the same will fit the 930SPX?

Surefire does not make a light for the 930…yet
