Mossberg 590 in combat

The above is an older (2007) article in which the author was issued a 590 in Iraq. He kills a bad guy using two slugs from the shotgun.

Is this a fairly atypical action? I haven’t heard that slugs were used to any great extent over there, but admittedly the author says that he brought his owm ammo.

Good article.

I love the versatility of a good shotgun, including my 590.

I tried to post this yeasterday. For the Army I continue to see reports of slugs being used, but can’t find what the source DODIC, ect is being used. I have seen referances to a USMC DODIC for slugs, but have not been able to verify either.

“Mil-Spec” shotgun ammo in general is basicly the cheapist old school loads out there. The less lethals and breaching ammo are a little newer, but “high speed” ammo like reduced recoil and “flight control” shotgun rounds are a long ways from being type clasiffied.

Good read. Thanks for posting it.

Yep, I enjoyed that article. Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, stories like this of assuming that you will be in one situation and being forced into another without adequate equipment is too common.

GU

Another great article and he does get into type of rounds used:

You might want to look at some of the articles that member DMR wrote as well. I believe you can find them on his website.
