I suggest that the group of weird-hat-wearing goofballs that anointed this disaster reconvene a quorum pronto and tell this Pope to take a lesson from his predecessor by retiring - today. Otherwise, he his going to make active enemies out of people like me who have been non-member supporters of his congregation. That’s right, a number of us non-Catholics go to Catholic hospitals, send our kids to Catholic preschools, and participate in Catholic charities. Perhaps it’s time to remind him of where all that cash sitting in Vatican accounts comes from…
I’ve always suggested that the pope, like all governments should lead by example. When he gives up his good plated walking stick and the billions of $$ of treasures he’s sitting on to the poor and unappreciated I will consider giving him the time of day. Till them he’s like all other hypocrites.
It appears the AP has attributed words to the pope to once again portray him as a socialist hero. This mainstream media sensationalism and “framing the narrative” appealing to socialists and Catholic haters. I’m surprised that a group cynical of the lamestream media are so quick to accept their reporting at face value.
From what I have read the Pope was asking for generosity and inclusion of the poor but the AP drew the conclusion this must be done through government. Most of what the Pope speaks on are appeals to individuals’ spiritual growth and life not world politics. And personally the Pope is very generous and humble.
That was my first thought, but all of the quotes that I’ve seen leave little to context. Moreover, this is the second time that this clown has made statements on the international stage that, at the very least, call into question his belief in capitalism as a viable economic system. How far we have come from Pope Leo VIII. So, there is a saying in the Army, “Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and three times is enemy action.” Well, I’ve written off this pope as a clown - I will not even dignify his title with a capitol letter. I suggest the Catholics start paying very close attention to what their leader is actually saying.

He did, but not at the tip of a Roman spear. Show me a passage where Jesus called on Caesar to save the poor by seizing property from the rich. I think that it all goes back to that free will stuff.

And why is that? Capitalist countries enjoy the highest per capita standard of living in the world. Our poor live like kings compared to the average citizen in Cuba, East Germany, North Korea et al. Socialists countries may have better equality; everybody is equally miserable. Pope Leo VIII understood that fact. You might want to look up his writings on the evils is socialism.
If the Catholic church really wants to help the poor, they have far more personal wealth than anyone on this forum. Once they give away all of THEIR wealth, then they can come asking others to follow their example if so inclined.
And even if Jesus came asking, he’s Jesus, he can just make sure the poor are provided for without picking anyone else’s pocket. He can just turn a biscuit into a into a feast and that sort of thing. And under those circumstances I can probably donate a few biscuits just to kick in my share.
Certainly when I was hungry nobody was making sure I ate. When I was poor I don’t remember the Pope showing up to help me with my dignity. And when I was temporarily homeless I can assure you I was on my own and that is a tough line to crawl back above once you drop below it.
Exactly. He’s a Peronist, and Peronists are big on “social justice” issues while also being virulently anti-Communist and somewhat anti-capitalist. They advocate a “third way” between the two.

The virtue is in voluntarily giving of YOUR wealth to help the less fortunate. YOU decide who is worthy. Taking, by force, other’s wealth to give to the flavor of the election year is corrupting for both society and the individual. Why this is not obvious to every Bible reader and/or student of history is beyond my ken.
Not exactly. “… that which is Caesar’s” ain’t whatever Caesar says it is or we would have no private property. Our Constitution is meant to be limiting the takings of the state.
