Me and a buddy of mine (Staind503) went to the range yesterday to put some more time on his M&P 15FT. We live in a ban state so it came from the factory with out any muzzle attachment and he had a custom comp put on it, and we wanted to put rounds on paper to see how much of a difference the comp made. For about the first 20 min the gun ran great. Then it started acting up it would not strip a round from the mag. To clarify we were using polymer coated wolf with a mixture of Pmags and USGI mags with the new Magpul followers. I tried running some brass ammo I had in my cruiser bag through his rifle and still the same result. Then loaded more of my duty ammo in a Pmag and it ran fine. He then switched all of his ammo over to his Pmags and had no problem after that. We are leaving in about 15 min to go the range again today, and we are gonna try using a different lube and see if that solves the problem.
10-04. I will never use any other mag out on the market. I even got rid of all of my Okay Ind mags with lumpy plates and Magpul followers to buy 25 more Pmags.
I use them on duty, at every school I am taking or teaching. They are bar none the best thing out there.
Everyone on our swat team and WMD Tac team are using Pmags and getting more every time they can.
We let folks borrow them at schools we train and teach at and they usually inform us they are now using Pmags.
I’ve run them exclusively in the Vickers and EAG (Pat Rogers) carbine classes I attended this year. I also confined my “test” to seven PMags and over the course of both classes (about 2200 rounds) didn’t have a single malfunction.
I agree that they appear to be the current gold standard in AR magazines.
I think that all of the YouTube videos and such are a nefarious plot by MagPul to get us to buy more PMags due how impressed we are at how well they work when they are in one piece
Finally got mine out to the range today. Put 20 rounds through each of the 5 that I got and they ran just fine. Hardly a torture test, more of a function test, but I do like the feel of them better than the aluminum mag. They feel more substantial/robust in the hand.
A friend of mine gave me some PMC ammo that he’d had several years. I loaded it up in some of my GI mags and the rounds would not feed reliably. I looked a little closer at the ammo (which were not reloads) and it looked like the overall length of each cartridge was a little long. I unloaded the GI mags and loaded the one pmag I bought to test and each round fired without difficulty.
I ordered 20 more pmags from Brownells and will order more when I can afford it.
My buddy ended up using the militech I bought and that made a difference with his rifle. But what really killed the day was about 45 min in, I had a FTE because I was using shitty old laquer coated wolf and didnt clean my rifle from yesterday. And of course like an asshole I didnt bring and of my tools so I had no rods to push out the stuck casing.
Great thread.
Can anyone here give me the lowdown on the Magpul followers, and the different “Generations” that are out there?
I have recently seen a bright canary yellow colored “Generation III” Magpul Follower that has either just hit the market, or will soon be hitting the market?
Also, I have some PMAGS that are stamped “11/07”, and also some stamped “12/07”.
The 11/07 PMAGS are stamped “5.56” on the followers.
The 12/07 PMAGS I have are NOT stamped “5.56” at all. Just a plain, smooth follower.
Why the difference? Which “Generation” followers do I have?
What will be the difference between previous followers, and the newest “Generation III” bright yellow follower?
Thanks guys.
