I’m picking up the SKDTAC version of the Eagle Chest Rig which has Molle straps on either side of the mag pouches. What I would like to accomplish is a drop pouch on the left w/enough room to add a slim sheath or folding knife and a pouch on the right w/sufficient room for both a small water bottle & a small first aid/misc kit. I’ve been looking over a number of pouches but am not sure which would serve my needs best. Any suggestions? All input appreciated…

I have been using 5.11 VTac pouches for mags, med, and water. I’ve had no problems and they’re constructed pretty dam goodl, limited on colors…Just my 2 cents. I’m looking to order the same eagle rig from SKDTAC, just waiting for the coyote brown to be restocked…
Are you saying you want the knife, water bottle, and med kit in the same pouch?
With the limited MOLLE strap space available I realize that including the knife is too ambitious. However, I’d like having both water bottle and med kit in the same pouch on the right (dump pouch will be on the left). The EssTac Large Utility/GP pouch is a possibility.

That’s a distinct possibility as well, thx!..

This is what I run for a med pouch on that rig:

One thing to consider is this; if you’re going to run a belt holster for your pistol (IMO a better set-up than a drop leg, not as cool of course), you won’t be able to clear the pouch on the RH side Molle if something is there. Ask me how I found that out… Run you drop pouch at about 10 o’clock on the LH side of the belt, knife and canteen at 9 and 7 respectively. Most important is to find what works for you. I found that pulling the chest rig up to the chest, hence the name, gives you enough clearance to the belt area, unless you’ve very short waisted. YMMV
yep. more here
If all I wanted was a med pouch then that would be at the top of my list of possibilities. However, I’m hoping for a setup that would include a small water bottle and med gear in the same pouch (hence my interest in the EssTac pouch). I’m experimenting w/not using a pistol belt and using the right-most mag cell w/thumb-break for my pistol. Limited testing has indicated this could be a very viable option for me but if it doesn’t work out then I’ll go back to square one and include a pistol belt. Thanks for all the input so far, keep it coming!..

Good read, thx!

Good article Rob.
Glad you mentioned the CSM pouch, good piece of kit. Alternately you could run the pouch at 6 o’clock as long as you don’t have to roll onto your back or have to do a mag change (other than admin) from it.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the pouch between your stomach and the back of the mag pouches, center line front.
One more piece of advice. If you’re not doing high round count relays and can get by with say 2~3 mags, try to move them outboard as much as possible and use your “load and make ready” mag(s) from your dump pouch (if allowed by the instructor). It’ll save strain on the lower back as opposed to having the magazines up front and you trying to counter balance them with your back muscles. Fine for a short time, but by 6 PM, you’ll be feeling it and believe me, it will effect your performance.
Anyone using that HSGI pouch have a pic of the back of it?
Here you go:

Fits the open slot perfectly.
So it’s 5 MOLLE rows high? or 2.5 depending on how you count?
Here’s a picture in place. I used the top three rows and left the fourth (bottom one) open.
