MOLLE Gear for hunting

I have never used MOLLE gear, but I like how modular and configurable it is.

I was thinking I would get ITW Fastmag pouches (I hunt with my AR) and it got me thinking about getting the MOLLE version and getting a Blackhawk MOLLE vest. I have other gear I normally store in a backpack that I think I could move to the vest as well.

I was hoping to get a few opinions on the MOLLE system. Do those of you who have used it like the MOLLE system? Does this standard seem like it will be around a while (I would hate to start buying MOLLE gear and then see it gone in 5 years).

As far as being available, I don’t see an issue.

Since it’s modular, and there is such a range of pouches in size/shape configurations there’s no reason it wouldn’t be useful for hunting.

I’d probably skip the fastmag though. It’s good kit, but it’s a hard outside surface that will provide a noise signature every time a branch hits it. Plenty of high quality soft pouches out there though.

Good thought on the fastmag. Thanks!

I’m starting to look into what gear I would get for it. I was thinking I would get a bag that holds some fast-attach bipods I got and a pouch for shotgun shells when I hunt birds (maybe even a big pouch to serve as a game bag). Probably also a field knife. I see some of the blackhawk vests have built in areas that can store water pouches.

This is a cool standard. I only learned about it recently.

generally speaking i carry my warbelt with me when im hunting and at least a camelbak. i’m putting together a LBV type rig to replace it though. Just gotta find someone that puts out 30.06 pull cards.

eta: i hunt in m/c because it works

Maxpedition alleged that they would roll out a very utilitarian Molle
vest by early summer I believe. It was a collaboration with the Ribz company. Vaporware thus far. Bummed.

if you like the idea of the fastmag but don’t want the hard exterior, the Eagle FB pouch is a molle cordura pouch with a velour covered Kydex insert. it holds the mags very secure but is quiet as well…

MOLLE is built for being outdoors. There are a few companies offering fishing equipment with MOLLE modularity. It’s simple, it works, and if you buy surplus it’s cheap.

If you check around on eBay or at your local surplus store you can find the surplus molle vests for a reasonable price. I got mine for around $10. Used pouches can be had inexpensively as well but you have to be careful because it adds up fast.
