Mods needed to run a suppressor on an AR

I’m rather new to this site, as you can see from my post count, but I’ve been reading and visiting for quite a while.

I’ve been thinking about getting a suppressor, and I was wondering what all needs to be done (PRI gas-buster charging handle, etc?) to my AR to, I guess, prepare it for a suppressor. Also what are the purposes behind those changes?

thanks

You dont really NEED any modifications to run a suppressor but they can help. The PRI charging handle, I believe, helps disspate the extra gas that comes back through the system.

Maybe H and H2 buffers to see what cycles the best with the ammo you will be using.

Gasbuster CH may help or do the DIY gasbuster mod with rubber gasket maker like Todd from Noveske recommended to me.

I’m already planning on getting the Spikes T-2 Buffer, so that’s good. So if I run my BCM charging handle, will gas spray all up in my face?

If you use the BCM you might find this mod helpful.

Very nice.

Since the gasket is quite exposed and subject to being slammed around a bit, how long might one expect this mod to last before a re-do becomes necessary?

oh wow. That’s so simple, it’s brilliant. Thank you for that link.

Are you talking about RVT Silicone or something else?

Good luck

Depending on the gun a heavier buffer might be beneficial. Other than that, I don’t do anything different.

At the bottom of my thread Todd posted some info about it. Havent tried it yet though.

Before doing anything special, try your AR with a can to see if it will work as-is. My Colt 6940 runs just fine right out of the box with a suppressor on it. I simply unscrewed the flash hider, threaded the can on, and it runs perfectly.

Would adding something similar to the noveske switch block negate the need for any other mods?

You really only need to find the optimal buffer. And that’s probably a lot cheaper than the switch block thingy.

The switchblock only makes sense if you want to run a rifle with limited dwell time with and without a suppressor without making any other changes - for that it’s great, but realistically, as NFA disease goes, suppressed will be far more frequent than not.
