Modifying ar-15 to fire full auto

Theoretically speaking

Is it possable to make an ar-15 fire full auto by simply removing the disconector?

I know the legal issues and wouldn’t do it unless the SHTF but was wondering if it would fire properly and what harm it could cause to the gun
