I think this would make Rick Beato’s Head Explode

You Tube algorithms have identified me as a music fan and so my feed is always full of various music items, both performances and analysis. Thus, Rick Beato’s material shows up with regularity. I have only watched a handful of his videos, but he does not seem to show a lot of enthusiasm for much of what is going on in the music industry these days.

I could easily launch into a multi-page diatribe about where music stands today, but I have to get ready for work, and I doubt anyone really wants to read such a posting. To be brief, I will just say that music has always been a cross between art and entertainment, with performers often leaning more towards one direction or the other.

But most of the music produced currently is just crap put out for mass consumption - a product. Time will tell, but it is hard to imagine most of today’s songs will still be played 10 - 20 years from now. But the Beatles are still going strong after 50 years.

I assume there are some good artists and bands currently operating that I have not heard of, but how do you find them amongst all the dross out there?

The only modern band that I have had any enthusiasm at all for in the last five years is The Warning. See the attached link for video, if you are interested.

I am old.

I still ruck 5 to 7 miles with a 30 pound pack 4 to 5 days a week and lift hard 2 days a week. I sometimes feel the mileage, but it is usually due to being too close to suicide bombers a few times in my life.

I graduated High School in the mid 70s as a result I think I was part of the rock world at the zenith .

Today my music reflects both my life and my age. I spend my time probably equally divided from music from my youth i.e. Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Lynard Skinner, Marshal Tucker, Tower of Power, Led Zeppelin. The other 2/3rds is split about equal between African, Latino and Middle Eastern music.

The music of today sucks,

I will not be watching the Super Bowl and sent the NFL an email telling them that since the half time show will be a piece of shit that calls himself Bad Bunny or is it herself since he is going to wear a dress to perform on Sunday.

LOL, you should send it to Rick. Although he’s probably already seen it. Post it as a reply to vid he did about why today’s music sucks.

Hate to sound like an old fart, but yeah… Today’s gridded music isn’t that great. I heard an old Metallica song off Garage days the other day and was like WOW. I’d forgotten about that tone.

Going back to the first couple of Ozzy/Randy albums was an eye opener too. When you get used to today’s junk it doesn’t seem that bad. But when you hear some good stuff from back in the day, it’s amazing.

OK, so I mentioned the band “The Warning” and you mentioned “Metallica” so I will seamlessly connect the two together.

Keep in mind that this video is over a decade old - the band has developed a lot since then.
