I think I picked up 100 rounds of MK 262 mod 1 yesterday. It is Black Hills seconds. The box is labled 5.56mm 77gr match hp. The bullets have a cannelure. The brass is Winchester 09 with the NATO cross. Many of the cases have very small dents or discoloration similar to XM193. Has anyone seen this before? Anyone able confirm my suspicions? Thanks!

Small cosmetic blemishes won’t have any impact on function. It’s good stuff. Nice score.
I’ll post my accuracy results next week. I’m hoping for the best. This is the most expensive 5.56 I have ever bought at $35/box of 50…
It’s Mk262 Mod 1. When in doubt, note the lot# on the inside flap of your box and call (605)348-5150. $35.00 was a good deal for you. Congrats.
Does BH make other loads with 77 grain bullets? Now you guys have me thinking I’ve been overlooking Mk262 for a while now since I didn’t know what it was.
BH makes “Red Box” (IE new ammo…blue is reloads) 77GR SMK but its loaded to 223 pressure. Mk262 is 5.56 pressure, and one of the few “match” 5.56 pressure loads.
Silver State Armory makes a Mk262 clone load that Ive shot quite a bit, and gotten very good accuracy with in a variety of uppers.
I haven’t been able to find the Black Hills Mk262 seconds in a long time…
Why is it that there is Black Hills 223 77gr Red and Blue box out there and pretty available, while the 556 version is scarcer than hen’s teeth? Both my JP and BCM uppers really like the 223 version and it would be nice to get a couple hundred more fps out the front end. Both uppers shoot the PRVI 75 gr stuff OK and the Hornaday 223/556 a bit better, but my JP upper loves that 77gr red box - it will put 10 shots in a 1 inch box and I’m really green with this rifle and scope combo.
Almost positive the 5.56 (MK262) is solely a military round and what we get are imperfect seconds. The .223’s are for civilian use and therefore more plentiful.
