Does seem very efficient or even effective, but only in America:
If the mini don’t do it, bring out the .50?
Meh, put the Gatling on helo….
Some people have too much money to burn.
“Is this just another tax payer funded delta safari?”
“Have a nice dinner Capt”
It has it’s detractors…
It is kind of redneckish. I understand feral hogs are a nuisance species but it doesn’t have to be a “yeeeehaw” moment. It’s actually the perfect time to break out the NVGs and take your suppressed carbine out on a stalk.
More importantly ripping them up with M2s and mini guns really helps spread the risk of brucellosis to everything. Also you are wasting a lot of meat that can be safely harvested.
I looked at doing a helicopter hog hunt, was very interested, right up until the quote came back at $6k per person for 2hours of flight time.
Ted Nugent has a video where he is flying around with a minigun taking hogs out. Very fun video to watch.
This is the way to do it. Stalk and snipe suppressed. The meat can be harvested this way as well.
But to play devils advocate….
They breed worse than rabbits. 2 litters a year and about 7 piglets every litter. Oh yeah, the piglets are ready to start breeding at 5 to 7 months of age. This is almost like gremlins getting wet.
I have seen the destruction and been on land that has them thick as fleas. At some point you have to just say screw it and drop them and move. I do agree in having a follow up crew going behind with IR and scooping them up to throw in a pit to cover them up.
You think it is manageable until you see it first hand and then you see why miniguns are thriving in this market.
Get some!
I think the minis and the M2s are just gonna scatter them and you will ultimately get fewer numbers. Any attempt at eradication of an area would require almost nightly sweeps for a month. You’d also need to employ some real world tactics like driving them to ambush and boxing them in. The worst things about feral hogs is they are actually pretty smart and adaptable.
Guys pay big bucks for “boog” training and here is the perfect school for the taking if it would simply be organized as such.
Obviously we are all down with the program here, but in reality, are those traps the real answer? Spiral trap with a creamatorium at the end…

You think it would smell like bacon?
Only ever shot one hog, and it was on a “hunting preserve” in order to see for myself what the 70 grain Barnes TSX does on one of these tough critters. Going to spend a few weeks hunting these things to help someone whose livelihood is being harmed both from the ground and from a helicopter too, is on the bucket list.
Sounds like the Mongol Great Hunt. Who’s going to step up to organize a nerge?
Biologists that study these things say that it’s pretty much impossible to shoot them out of existence. They learn quickly and the sows teach their young. It’s a controversial topic, but trapping has proven to be way more effective in many states.
I don’t think harvesting the meat is in any of their interest either or even practical. There is so effing many of them that just killing them and “wasting” the meat is irrelevant.
Pre made hamburger for the coyotes I suppose.
“To hell with them pigs. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms.”
Nothing goes to waste in nature.
They likely make great fertilizer for the crops.
There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s eradication, not hunting. Same as mice in your house. It doesnt look very efficient, but that’s for them do decide how to spend their money.
