My decision to retire when I did was in part because of his comments about white rage being the Army’s biggest threat and issue, just a month or two before Afghanistan fell.
Bearing in mind I speak as someone who grew up surrounded by veterans but did not get to serve myself, specifically THAT walking pile of fecal matter putting on any uniform is an insult to any good men who share it. Even if he put on SS Black, while it’s more appropriate for Dem ideology it would be an insult to the camp guards at Castle Itter who fought alongside American GI’s and Austrian Resistance guerrillas to defend the lives of the POW’s they were guarding against an SS-Totenkopfverbande.

Ironically, when I was attempting to join ROTC 20 years ago I was drawing up a white-paper initiative to authorize Pinks & Greens, and possibly selected other historical uniforms, as Alternate Options in garrison and non-combat postings. (Domestic posts, military attaches… no Revolutionary or Union Blue anywhere near the battlefield, but giving individual soldiers the option subject to command approval, or having a single “Heritage Alternate Option” designated unitwide by the CO.)

Yeah, but it didn’t used to be that way. It used to mean here is a guy who is really serious, here is a guy who absolutely busted his ass to qualify when a bunch of other guys who also busted their ass still went home.

Its definitely not a “guarantee of nothing.” It doesn’t automatically mean that he’s a great person or amazing leader, but it still says quite a lot about the man. At the end of the day, the selection process was created by humans, so its imperfect and sometimes the wrong people get through. Also people change somewhat as they age. He clearly did not go through SFAS and the Q in the last few years, he may have been a different person when he did.
