My girlfriend wants to buy me a watch and I have no idea what kind of watch I want/need. The first option is the Citizen Eco Drive Military which is pretty cool since it doesn’t need batteries. I also have been looking at the Casio G Shock Military. Yeah, the advertising is horrible but I’ve read pretty good reviews about it being tough as nails.
Anyways, I’m looking for a watch under $200 (preferably under $150) that is ridiculously tough, will last forever, is great on batteries (Eco Drive is definitely a plus), looks like a military watch and has functions for stopwatch, calendar, etc. Are there any watches out there that fit these criteria?
ps. If this is in the wrong category, can someone tell me where it needs to go?
G shocks are built like brick shit house takes a ton of abuse.
Sunuto Vectors work well also.
I have had great luck and love my Navy Seal Watch that isnt marked as such. Great Basic watch that is great for when you need to see it in the dark. I only got one cause I could get a clean one. I am not a SEAL And dont play one on TV.
Suunto makes an excellent watch. Though I currently wear an Observer, a Vector served me well for years. The Military X-Lander is another option - probably the toughest built Suunto available.
I found the battery life on the classic Suuntos to be excellent, and the battery is user changeable.
Thanks for all the recommendations, guys. Does anyone have any experience with the original Eco Drive I posted/any Eco Drives? If it’s tough enough to handle hard core abuse I’ll probably be going with that one.
Indeed. I have a Seiko 200 meter dive watch I bought 30 years ago, as a graduation present to myself from grunt school. I’ve replaced the band twice, the battery maybe 6 or 7 times, and it still keeps great time. Lots of fun stuff that watch survived.
I have a Sunnto Military Core and Casio Solar Atomic G-Shock as well, plus a Citizen Eco Drive chronograph, just a fancier version of the Military.
Honestly, they are all good. But if I know I am going to get the watch beat to crap that day, I wear the Casio. It survived 3 weeks underwater, in a store destroyed by hurricane Katrina. If it survived that, I doubt I’ll kill it with anything less than a 30-06.
I paid about $30 for my G-Shock on Amazon, that’s a pretty good deal. Sure there are other better (and more expensive) watches out there, but for a robust everyday watch that has a countdown and stopwatch feature it’s a decent price.
