I tried searching the forums but didn’t find any talk about Midwest Industries (MI) AR rifle. There is a one or two Youtube videos out there on this rifle but not much else. One of the Youtube videos states the rifle is pretty lightweight.
A dealer that I had recently bought a gun from offered me 10% off anything I want, available in his shop. I came across the MI rifles priced at around $1000 so with the discount, I would get it for around $900. I’m just looking for a general purpose (also lightweight) AR as I already own another AR set-up as a “DMR” type of rifle for varmints.
He does have a BCM Midlength 16" Mod 0 rifle for $1300 but I’m not sure if I really am going to gain anything out of a BCM?
Appreciate the feedback.
MI and BCM are not really true competitors. BCM sells uppers with MI rails and stocks other MI parts, and MI sells BCM rifles, uppers, and other parts on their website.
I’m sure the MI rifles are fine. Unfortunately, they don’t go into much detail about their specs (although what detail they provide looks pretty good) and quality control measures, and are not yet a known quantity like BCM is.
With this in mind, what do you plan on using this rifle for? If it’s for self-defense, I would spend the extra money and get the BCM.
However, if it’s going to be used primarily as a plinker, I’ll go out on a limb here and say buy the MI rifle, run it through its paces, and then do a write-up on it to improve our knowledge base.
It’s going to be a plinker.
The specs are a little vague. M16 BCG can either mean it’s what we would expect it to be or its just a m16 carrier so they can tick that box. FN CHF barrel looks good as long as they didn’t spec out something silly and QC checks are there. I would give Midwest a call and ask specifics. If it specced out fine I would personally give it a shot if I were looking at it, but I’ve traded off/sold a lot of POS guns before lol.
That said, there’s the BCM. Can’t really go wrong there.
I ended up going with the BCM Mod 0, 16" mid-length.
Seems like you might be talking about the “MI 16-iIN. M-LOK” it’s on the COVER of Guns & Ammo AR-15 mag., (2015 issue NO.1) the Read up on it definitely sounds pretty Awesome, $1200 MSRP and .223 Wylde and they’ve got this bad boy down to 5.14lbs.!
I’d buy this in a Heart Beat IF I could! (^_-)
