Is the metal slide SIRT worth the extra coin? Those that have used / owned both, can you comment?
I have one and like it. Also great as a firearms instructor when demonstrating things.

I had the same question before I bought mine 18 months or so ago.
I ended up calling Next Level Training to ask for their recommendation. I had a lengthy conversation with Mike Hughes (who called me back while he was in an airport waiting on a flight) and another member of his sales staff, and I have nothing but great things to say about their customer service. At no time did they attempt to “up-sell” me and steer me toward their higher-priced models; in fact, based on my intended use we determined that one of the plastic slide models would be best. It has worked great for me so far.
So my recommendation would be to call and ask.
There’s an older SIRT pro on the EE here going for a good price. Not mine, but just saw it.
I think it is worth it, as someone who has used and owned both. You get some false skill in draw and transition times with the lighter plastic gun that you will not be able to replicate with a real gun. In contrast, the weighted metal gun will not fool you that way.
Definately worth it especially considering what ammo costs now. The way Mike Hughes puts it the SIRT eliminates the barrier to entry of practice. You don’t have to get in the car, go to the range, and burn a bunch of ammo to get some practice. Obviously it’s not going to replace live fire practice but it’s nice to be able to dry fire with reset and feedback in my underwear on Saturday morning. It aslo mimicks the weight and feel of a real pistol for practicing draw, reloads etc.
Just thought I’d revive this thread since I’m considering the SIRT now too. For those who have handled both the Pro (metal) and Performer (plastic) series, are there any practical differences that jump out at you when doing transition drills?
I’m aware the metal is more durable, and better for retention training, but if you are just using it strictly for trigger work, will you really appreciate the additional 4oz of the Pro?
With the lighter SIRT you will be able to move it faster than you would a heavy gun. So if you’re on a timer you will think your draws and transitions are faster than they really are. That is the root of the problem. It is noticeable even just on a draw. You will get used to the lighter weight and speed and expect it with a real gun, and it will mess you up.
I ended up going with the Metal due to exactly what Dravz mentioned. It played out when I was doing 3x5 walkback with my AA conversion kit. I ripped it out the first time after using my g34 and it nearly flew out of my hand.
I have the red/red plastic slide performer model. I’m not a competition shooter and don’t use it for FoF training. Added a set of Ameriglo Defoor’s to it. I’ve been happy with it. I believe it was $165 on sale when I ordered it.
I just ordered the Pro model earlier this week. If you call NLT and ask for a discount, it ended up being about $350 + shipping. I thought the price was reasonable enough to justify the Pro model. Also, according to their facebook, they are supposed to be having a sale soon, but they did say the $350 would be better than their sale price.
Don’t have both - just the pro. I DO like the weight. And, as many have said - it is excellent (for what it is) for home practice! I need to get some tritium sights on mine for when I go hunting statues in the Zen garden in my backyard at night. (Yes - full wooden fence, so the neighbors don’t freak:)
Have had mine maybe a year. No problems, and after countless thousands of rounds - still on the original battery (have never had the thing opened up yet!) VERY pleased with it.

I have had the Pro model for about 2 weeks. It worked for less than a day. New pistol was sent with prepaid return shipping of defective pistol. Happy with customer service and can see the benefits of the pistol for training. Some of my fears about the looking for the laser instead of the sights is not happening for me. Glad I picked up the Pro model for correct weight. Got it for about that $350 price new from NLT. Hope to not have any issues with the replacement.
