mesa 6-shell vs 8-shell holder

why go with one over the other? thanks!

The 8 is too big. In some configurations, could interfere with some foreends on pump actions. Do you really need 8 shells in the caddy?
That’s what led me to purchase the 6.

Depends on the gun. The 8-shell Mesa interferes with my grip on my Mossberg, so I have a 6 on there. The 8-shell Sidearmor works well on my Benelli and can be swapped for a 6-shell if I don’t want the extra weight, so I usually have the 8 mounted.

I have an 8 on my work gun. It does not interfer with the stock 870 foreend but would interfer with anyone that comes back over the receiver.

I used a 6 shell holder on my 870, but being left handed, the shells in there interfered with my trigger finger to work the action release. And if 3 1/2" shells were in there, they would nearly interfere with the entire trigger housing.
So I switched to a 4 shell holder. It doesn’t have the shells so far forward, so it solved the interference problems, again, this is coming from a lefty.

Go with the 6. Unless you have an oversized mag tube (or over 18" bbl), it is a full tube reload. Feed the caddy from your belt or pockets. The extra 2 rounds are not worth the hassle of extra bulk or possible interference with weapon manipulation. Just my 2 kroner.

I have a 4 shell mesa on my R870 Tactical, Speedfeed IV-S stock, Surefire foreend. I’m not a professional operator so my systems main mission is home defense. For training classes, I run a mesa single point adapter and a MS2 sling. I have 2, 4 shell caddy’s on my belt. I found the weight savings from 6 to 4 to be significant for me.

With the 8 shell you can’t run the sling mounts that go in between the receiver and buttstock like the GG & G and others.
