Mega's Billet Receiver

I recently learned that Mega is making their own billet receivers. My camera-fu is weak. This thing looks better in hand. It’s one of the early versions, but supposedly will be what the production model looks like.

Do want…

Been wanting a billet receiver for a long time. I thought I settled on a LaRue lower, but I don’t really see myself spending the 1200 on a Stealth upper to get their lower. This looks like it would fit the bill nicely. Do they have a billet upper to go along with it?

Same triggerguard as the POF.

That is a nice piece of aluminum!

6061?

That is a nice looking lower…

The first thing that jumped into my head was that it is a POF clone.

I have heard they do have a billet upper. The person who had the lower receiver said Mega is going to be coming out with several variations of the Billet upper (i.e. with or without deflector and with or without forward assist).

I believe it’s 7075.

any idea when it’s gonn abe available?

I was told they were going to be released “soon” but I do not have a concrete release date.

I was able to buy the receiver to use it for a build and was asked to let Mega know what I thought. The person who sold me the receiver had two versions of it. There was another version with a thinner triggerguard. It was the same basic shape, just thinner on the bottom. I was told that individuals at Mega showed some of the people they knew the two versions and people preferred the version pictured in my original post.

I cannot remember the name of the gun magazine, but there’s supposedly an article coming out next month about the new Mega billet receivers.

For what it’s worth, I have assembled the lower receiver and it all went together cleanly. I’m waiting to receive a couple of parts to complete the rifle.

I LOVE Mega, and I love billet. But this does nothign for me, i love Billet receivers, but this does nothing new aesthetic wise.

It pretty nice, the finish looks very nice! Though I must admit I’m not a big fan of the rounded trigger guard, but I can live with it.

Any word on pricing?

I picked this one up for $175. I don’t know if that was because it’s a prototype or that’s what the price point is supposed to be.

It does feel good in the hand. There’s no gap between the triggerguard and the grip. The triggerguard has not negatively affected my grip. As far as aesthetics go, we all know what they say about debating taste…

Personally, I like what they did on the front of the magwell. I prefer this new pattern to their standard “Gator” pattern.

nice, looks beefy

I didn’t think any of Mega’s lowers had the gap.
Slugger

All forged receiver have the “gap” when used with standard trigger guards. Some grips and guards cover up the gap.

Umm…yeah, there won’t be a gap since the tg is integral to the lower

I was trying to explain to the people who disliked the triggerguard that it is comfortable. I mentioned the absence of the gap (found in standard configuration lower receivers) as a baseline for comparison. I understand that there should not be a gap when the triggerguard is integral to the lower receiver.

Though I personally dislike the trigger, solely for aesthetic reasons, it is not a deal breaker for me. If Mega sells these for between $150 - $175, I’ll surely look in to one very seriously.

It would be awesome if it is indeed 7075.
