My 1st from scratch build, I think I got it right.
Upper/Lower - Mega Billet
Stock Kit - Vltor A5
Trigger - Gissel SSA
Barrel - BCM 16" 410 SS Mid
Hand Guard - VTAC 13"
BCG - BCM w/bumfighter CH
Other - Aimpoint Pro, Battlecomp, Redfield 4-12x w/AD Recon
This build is a little heavier than my last with the weight coming from the barrel (compared to a LW) and the EMod. I have contacted Victor Conte with Balco Labs so the weight should not be an issue.
I had the same problem as others did in the thread. Not a big deal though, just used a little tape to mask off the area around the area and a small, fine file to take some material off that nub. Quick fix for sure.
i’ve been thinking of doing a similar build through Rainier Arms, but with a Noveske or Centurion CHF Barrel. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you drop on the build, not counting the price of the optics and their mounts?
I was actually pricing out a similar build today. I’m leaning towards a lightweight barrel and the mega monolithic upper receiver that only has the top rail has caught my eye.
That build now sports a Centurion LW barrel which I like tons. Also changed out the A5 to a BCM modstock/H buffer.
Price? $1500-ish (without optics). Without a Gissell or Battle Comp you could do it much less. Without billet, even lower.
My 2 cents: The billet shit is neat and all, but if I had to choose between 1) forged upper/lower + trigger upgrade vs. 2) billet upper lower I would take #1 every time.
Great choice of components. I built two Mega upper and lowers sets and love the quality. The anodizing seems a lot better than my Spikes and Rock rivers. The surface preparation must be super and the colorization is consistent. Like the serrations/checkering on the front of the mag-wells also.
