Marine Security Guard

I was in 3rd FAST in Norfolk, lots of high speed training. Was a lot more fun than going to the Fleet and being in a Line company with a lot less bullshit too. Worked with a lot of different people and branches, but didn’t make any contacts for future jobs.

Your Career Jammer can get that info, keep in mind, if you are a NCO, it’s a B Billet for you and it is open for all NCOs. If you are a L/Cpl you have to be an 03 to get the duty. You have a couple of options with FAST; Kings Bay GA or Bangor WA running security in special containment areas…very high security clearance for that. Another option is with the Platoons in Yorktown/Norfolk or Rota Spain. You could end up in Afghanistan on short security details. Rota, you pretty much deploy in Europe and Africa.

MSG is good to go, while I was in a hurry to get off the program and check the box for a B Billet, it wasn’t a bad duty from either perspective; watchstander or detachment commander. I only want you to go in with both eyes wide open, my first hit as a detachment commander was that I was ‘too much infantry’ and I was told to slow down.

Well no kidding…your corpsman is the only one that can answer that via the silver stallion…

Generally speaking we were only able to get Sergeants on second elistments to SAWIC…shooting a back azimuth could be a little much to ask for unfortunately:(

Surface danger zones, he should have been able to talk an understanding but maybe not demonstrate an understanding.

Yeah but you got a bus ticket while the rest of us got plane tickets:p

I attende two classes; one in May 92 and the other in March 93…the biggest thing that I remembered from the first one was that there was a terrorist behind every question that you were asked.

So once travel got our orders and everything else squared away and we had our final compare mens inspection they loaded all of use Europe bubbas on a bus to Dulles. Our hub was Frankfort so on that United flight there were about 15-20 Compare Mens suit wearing Marine Reg haircut hardchargers on board. EVERYONE on the plane knew what we were doing and we are stuck on an 8 hour flight not answering any questions because we could compromise security at our future posts…

IMO…a little too close to the flag pole for my liking;)

Yep you can go FAST, PRP, 8&I, and or Overseas (but I think they are cutting down on Overseas, last time I checked). PRP you are a React Force on Kings Bay and Bangor because the Navy has contracted out the security to the Private Sector. FAST you will go on deployments and be a Reactionary Force for whatever command. When I was in Bahrain we were the React force for CENTCOM and were part of the Lebanese American Evacuation in 2006. 8&I, unless you are guaranteed Ceremonial Driller, you will be doing security at the Naval Yard, Camp David, White House, and or the Commandants House. Overseas the only option was Rota Spain when I was in BSG (Basic Security Guard) School, and there was only one Slot to go.

Ha! Camp Allen what a tiny tiny base.

Swear off alcohol during training and study every minute you can

Not a problem, I dont drink.

Im a POG Lance.

My opinion…that is a problem. jk:D

Unless you are close to the cutting score, I’d recommend MSG…me thinks your MOS (5711 maybe) has an astronomical cutting score. You’ll get promoted within the first couple of months on post…via cutting score (additional 100 points upon graduation) or meritouriously.

Still danger close to the flag pole…

To bad about Rota, I installed a tactical simulation network (turned on a bunch of computers that we had a company build, keep in mind I was a 0369…I can only handle off/on buttons) last year…major improvements since I was there in 2000.

Also MCIs…I didn’t do Spelling for Marines…musta been why it took so long to get promoted.

Yes Im CBRN. Cut for Corporal this month is 1655.Not that bad. I picked up Lance Feb 1st soo I wont even rate a score till fall time.

I’m a plank owner at FAST. You guys are making me feel old.

Dream sheet request.

  1. P.I.
  2. Thailand
  3. P.I.
    4.Thailand
    5.P.I.

And I’m not talking about Parris Island;)

I was going to do it but got stupid and got married, then got divorced a year later, then got stupid again ,and got out to do L.E.

Didn’t they close down Subic Bay?

Oh, he understood SDZs just fine. It was trying to use a compass after years and years of having folks point and tell him to go fight in that hallway or foyer or root cellar or breakfast nook…

The compass and map confused and frightened him, to the point that he started chanting “Fire baaaaaaaaaad!” and we eventually had to call in a hostage negotiator. Awkward! :frowning:

My old home… :frowning:

Ah yes, there was not a dry eye in the 'Po, when they closed Subic and the fleet pulled out…

Did they still have the fire escape pole at Rock Lobster when you were there?

To the OP - sorry for the hijack. I do wish you luck with your quest to become an MSG. I worked with some guys that had done tours in Beirut, Sudan, Liberia, Moscow, etc. They are not all garden spots. But every one of them said they would not have traded the experience.

Black knight it isn’t all that bad but I would try to get into FAST. The MSG crew here in Liberia are pretty cool dude’s and the Marine House party’s are fun. As others have said you are there to protect the data not the people. But overall a good group of people.

Brings back memories of Naval Gangbang Course at the upper MEF camp…happy hour, first stop the UN Club…
