Just another FYI. There are shady people out there and they will rip you off.
A couple of decades ago I knew a guy who bought an M16 which he took to work, a hardware / gun store. He proudly showed it to anyone and everyone who he thought had the slightest interest. Didn’t take a week, someone took it away from him. They came in, bought a magazine and 20 round box of ammo, left, came back a couple of hours later, calmly took the rifle from it’s hiding place, loaded it and backed out the rear door.:cray:
My wife likes to sell things online to local people and she will meet them half way, usually a target parking lot. If I have the ability to go with her, I usually do. We always get there a good 10 minutes early to scope out the parking lot. If it is at night we park under a light. I will get out and position myself with my ccw and let her make the deal. Especially if the buyer is male.
But even with all that… If some one wants to rob you they will. Unfortunate but that is the society we live in these days.

The seller was carrying a revolver holstered around his ankle, eventually drawing the gun and firing three shots at the suspect as he drove off, police said.
Not good. I bet he got a talking too about that.
To me ankle holsters are only good for your primary CCW if you are a yoga instructor.
That’s why I’m reluctant to do f-to-f for guns. Still love that scene in ‘Ronin’ though. I’m surprised the bringing magazines into a gun store doesn’t happen more often.
This is probably just an ATF agent furthering Obama’s directive to GET GUNS to the Cartels.
Seriously… that takes balls. You’re meeting someone you KNOW is a gun guy and robbing him?
The crook is lucky the seller was a snubby ankle holster retard.
a few years ago a homeless man (might have had friends) tried to set me up in what was most likely going to be a robbery. Long story short my ad was in the paper, I was able to take off when I realized what was up.
Weird thing is the police wanted me to go through with it “to see what was up”
That was the last time I sold a firearm through the paper
It amazes me what people will do with this Craigslist stuff these days. My friend texted me the other day to tell me he had arranged to buy a new camera lens from a guy for $1500. The guy wanted him to drive out to the ass end of Apache Junction (you AZ guys will understand that) at night to his house and make the deal. Of course, he’d have to bring his own $1500 camera to make sure the lens worked…
So I told him, you’re going to drive to the middle of meth-town, far from any police presence, alone, at night, unarmed (he’s not a gun guy at all), with $1500 cash in your pocket and a $1500 camera, to meet a guy you don’t know from Adam? I told him he ought to bring lube in case the guy wanted to rape him as well as rob him.
My buddy seemed shocked at the notion, but conceded that I was making sense (albeit paranoid sense, as he called it). I offered to go with him and ride shotgun (or AR as the case may be), but he ended up rescheduling to the next day and doing the deal in a McDonald’s parking lot in broad daylight. All went well.
In general though, this is why I don’t use Craigslist or newspaper classifieds.
Like EvilBert this is why my wife and I always back each other up when we are selling something, but it a firearm or an old sewing machine.
in an OC constitutional carry state too
Yeah… I bet the thief sized the seller up first… looked for a sidearm, etc. before he made his move.
The guy was NOT in the right to fire at the fleeing thief… Although I’d have done the exact same thing.
scary stuff a bud of mine who is a detective in this town said their was a big run on people getting robbed from craigs list ads for tech stuff and any higher end easily moved item
we sell stuff on craigs list but its low buck stuff and no tech stuff mainly used kids stuff only meet at very good traffic locations front spot of the fresh and easy as example
wife has gone on a few I go on most
but selling $20 of baby clothes or $20 of used Barbi movies is pretty low target stuff IMHO
This is why i ALWAYS bring a buddy with a loaded gun(or two) when I do FTF gun sales. I dont do a ton, but so far they have all worked out.
I also dont go to the couple of local un-policed ranges alone any more after a guy got robbed with his own guns a few years ago.
I had one for a pistol, said he wanted to meet in the parking lot and look at it first. I got there early and went inside my ffl shop. I almost didn’t go through with it anyways from the sound of it. Guy showed up with his 10 year old and knew the ffl, too.
I’m always locked and loaded at the range AND sling my rifle when going downrange if on the regular rifle range. I won’t be THAT guy.
Yesterday in Jacksonville a jury recommended the death penalty for a chap, David Sparre who killed a woman he linked up on Craig’s List. On the other hand, last week, my wife and I bought for $30 each two North Face jackets, near new. She often buys baby clothes and expensive clothes for herself from CL.
I frequently buy/sell guns parts (stocks, handguards, scope rings, etc., but not whole guns), audio equipment and photo gear on craigslist. I insist on meeing in a very public place that has lots of people walking nearby.
Edited to add: IG, I would change your sentence slightly to read - There are lots of shady people out there and they will rip you off.
