My Gen I Redi Mag is extremely tight and most magazines do not drop free. Most of them also have their finish removed in two vertical lines due to the Redi mag being a little on the tight side. I am thinking of removing some metal from the inside of the Redi Mag to make the magazine removal easier.
Question:
What is the best method for this? I am thinking of using a dremel. What kind of attachment should be used?
Will there be any issues with rust if I remove finish leaving bare metal?
I repair my own vehicles. I’d use a 6-8 inch flat file, smooth cut to make more clearance. Dremels are wonderful tools, have one, but they are something of a bear free hand and have an aggressive nature.
A file will take more time, but give much more control. It will give a much flatter cut with less gouging, and fit the close confines more easily without marking the opposite wall. With a Dremel, a long thin stone will fit better than a drum. Either will load up with metal so dipping it in light oil will help.
You can cold blue the metal after. Repeated mag insertion would have worn the finish on the high spots eventually.
