Make my SBR lighter

Currently have the following, and it just seems sooo heavy.

Lower:
Mega Billet Lower (know I picked up weight here but a moot point as its an SBR lower now)
CTR with Vltor tube

Upper:
Rainier Billet upper
LMT 10.5" barrel with FSB
Larue 7.0 Rail
Larue FUG
Gear Sector G2 mount and G2 light
Larue rear BUS
CompM2 with QRP mount

I figured SBRs to be light no so with this. Havent weighed it yet.

Thinking about starting over, maybe a 12.5 Kino with MOE midlengths (looks good in Sticks pics) or a BCM 11.5.

Thoughts?

Plastic light mount will save you a little
Dump that BUIS for an MBUS
See what lighter lights you can use
Lighter rail or loose the rail
Pencil/ LW barrel

and the most painful…
Drop the M2 for a T1

The Kino really has a nice feel to it, and I like being able to get my hands out farther, so that is a winning scenario in my mind. I wish I had a decent scale to give you some weights, but I don’t.

I have a MRP 10.5, although its alot handier than a 12.5+ it still is little heavy. I held a scar 16 and was amazed on how balanced and light it was. If you plan on going a new route just sbr a SCAR:D

I just replaced my Colt 11.5" upper for a DD 10.3" upper and I notice a huge weight difference. I had the Troy TRX 11" rail on the colt and have just basic M4 handguards on the shorter upper and a detachable carry handle. The Colt upper had a Aimpoint M2 and Troy BUIS. I think the rails made a big difference but so did the lightweight barrel. BCM sells the lightweight 11.5" barrels now and that might make a difference.

What you have is a good solid setup, and unfortunately you’d have to go a bit gucci to really trim weight.

The T-1/H-1 over CompM2 is first - DD Mount is the lightest for lower 1/3
DD Lite or TROY/VTAC Extreme rail
DD or VLTOR Low profile gas block
Barrel profile would be next in line.
Surefire M300 on an 03DG or Gear Sector mount. X300 worth a look too if you’re going to a 9" rail. The lights weigh the same, but one less 123A for the M300.
Replace the FUG with an RVG from MagPul.

The sad part is: you might be money ahead keeping your existing upper, and then buying a complete new SBR upper built around a lightweight 11.5" or 10.5" with new FF Rail, and then go with these optics.

I feel your pain bro. I have an 11.5" heavy barrel setup with a heavy quad rail and an ACE stock, plus an EOTech and light. The thing must weigh 8 lbs with a mag in it.

I think I’m going to tear it down, send the barrel to ADCO for profiling, trade out the rail for an MI t-series and sell the ACE stock and buy a Vltor.

Daniel Defence RIS II M4A1 FSP cut to 9.5 inches.
Replace the gas block with a Noveske Switchblock, or scrap the KAC front sight and use a PRI gas block sight, or KAC gas block sight.

Guess it should also be worth mentioning that I plan on using an AAC M4-2000 can with the 51T brake (that I already have)

Just a new, lighter profile barrel and TRX rail will make a huge difference.

I am going with Schultze on this one. Lighter barrel in TRX will help, or better yet I like your orgional idea of the Kino with the Moe handguards
If not then…
-You can go to the MOE stock and save a little.
-Dump the LaRue BUIS and go with the MBUS (as stick mentioned)
-Dump the LaRue FUG for Magpul’s
-Lighter Light mount (as stick mentioned)
-Dump the LaRue rail for the TRX or DD setups

I am afraid that in the end your upper/lower receiver choice will never get this build to where you want it (weight wise).

Yeah in retrospect I should have done a forged lower.

I have my upper in the equipment exchange, start fresh.

Probably:
11.5 DD Lightweight profile
10.0 DD Lite rail
Standard forged M4 upper
Front and rear MBUS
X300 light

Eventually a T1 or maybe an RMR in a ADM mount. Until then I may just pick up a Bobro mount for the M2 and ditch the QRP, the Bobro has to be lighter.

My SBR went on a diet too. I ended up with something close to what you’re thinking of.

G2/VTAC/TNVC TX4
T1/LARUE

The weight saving on going to another T1 mount isn’t worth the 2-3oz you save for the RTZ/QD on the LARUE

I see you ave a 51T brake as well. Does your M4-2000 have enough clearance with a 9" rail?

i’m all about weight these days, but it does get to a point when you’re basically just doing it to do it. my shorty with 9.5 FSB rail and m951 is still just a hair under 8.5lbs with a loaded 30rnd mag… how much lighter can a guy ask for, without sacrificing something important? i do want to go to an x300 eventually, but that’s really all i’m willing to do.

No M4-2000 but the setup is said to work with the RIS2 and 10.5" barrels so it should work just fine (>1" clearance)

Elsewhere I said 6933 but then I saw these barrels from Daniel defense and now my vote would be for that.

Well I sold the said upper and starting from scratch. Ill let you guys know how it goes.

I did already make 1 purchase though. A DD Mk18RISII rail in black. Ive always wanted one so Ill shave the extra 3oz of a standard Lite rail somewhere else:D
