Make a side folder of get an underfolder?

I have the ability to try and do this: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=89&t=108766 to the same gun as in the link, or trade it for an underfolder version.
I would like a folder either way, so which one would be the better option?

Thanks for any advice.

The underfolder will be far less comfortable.

It really depends on what you want to do with it…the underfolder will be more “correct” for collecting purposes, but the side folder modification looks to be a whole lot more practical.

Another for side folding. Just gives you better support and less screwing around.

This gun will be a pure shooter, no collector value. Thanks for the responses.

If its a shooter, go with the sidefolder. An underfolding stock is one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever tried to shoot.

My vote is for the side-folder. I’ve owned both and used both. Over time, the under-folder version is not as solid when it locks up as a side-folder is. The under-folder version is also a little more cumbersome whether getting the stock open or folding it away.

To me, the only thing the under-folder has going for it is “coolness” factor but the novelty wears off quickly and it becomes clear that the side-folder is the better set-up.

side,

if you go with the under, you cannot put a fixed on it, when the “folding” novelty wears off.

I say side folder. I’ve never shot an underfolder but I would think it would be more awkward to unfold when the time comes. I love me a good side folder though.

Go with the sidefolder. Underfolders are cool, especially when “not-so-gun-friendly” people see 'em, and originals make good collector pieces. When it comes down to it though: 1) they wobble, or at least will eventually 2) they don’t unfold that fast/practical fast at least (if you find a way to do so refer to 1) and 3) they can get uncomfortable to shoot after a while.

I own an underfolding Hungarian which I love. That being said, I am now looking for a sidefolding Polytech.
