MajGen Michael Flynn's whitepaper on intelligence ops in Afghanistan

“Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in Afghanistan”

http://www.cnas.org/files/documents/publications/AfghanIntel_Flynn_Jan2010_code507_voices.pdf

Prepared by three people, but the main name on the report is the J2 in Afghanistan.

Major General Michael T. Flynn has been the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence (CJ2), for the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan since June 2009.

An interesting read. He proposes reorganizing the current operations into a more regional approach, with analysts having freer access to raw data.

I thought that a few of you downrange might be curious, if you have not already seen it. Pretty rare to have someone this high up publish such a document open source.

Stay safe.

Thanks for the link. I was going to look for it.

I understand he has slapped several Int Agencies. They seemingly spend more time behind desks preparing powerpoint presentations and not much time doing eyes and ears gathering. He advocates that Int Ops work more like journalists and get in there to find the root cause of problems and potential solutions.

Thanks again, looking forward to the read.

You are very welcome.

Back when I toted a musket and cutlass, I had the opportunity to listen to several of my officers mutter imprecations about the intel they received.

Then I had the opportunity to assist an S-2 for a bit, and was very impressed at his hard work. He had a real desire to provide every useful scrap of data to the people at the pointy end of the stick.

There are a lot of hard-working warriors out there, in and out of uniform. I do hope that they receive all the support they need.

And from us over here in in the Colonies, best wishes to Her Majesty’s warriors prowling throughout Afghanistan.
