I have 2 on backorder from 2 different vendors, one of them since October. Anyone else experiencing market latency on this stock? If anyone knows where they are actually available I’d greatly appreciate the heads-up! I was able to find a few LMT SOPMODs as an alternative, but for my next build I was really hoping to go UBR.
This is 100% normal with the UBR. Plan on waiting.

Pretty much anything with a Magpul logo on it is hard to find right now, but the wait is generally worth it. If your on a list, then sit back and relax it’ll come.
Grant,
How deep is your wait list on this product? Is it worth waiting for vs going with SOPMOD’s? For lack of a better term, the SOPMOD’s seem to be a bit “Plasticy” but I really like the cheek weld. For the money, it seems as if the UBR is worth waiting for. I have both a black and a tan on order, I’m hoping to get them by June when I’m home again on leave.
Not too bad I think (30-50).
What kind of gun are looking to put a stock on?
C4
Setting up a pair of RRA Entry Tacticals. Primarily mid-distance, 100-200m focus for these rifles. These are for new builds, I’m partial to the E-mod in my other setups. I tend to weld closer to the receiver, so the UBR looks great for me. I’ve never had one in my hands though so I’m going off of what I see in pictures.
Roger. Are you running a can? If not, I don’t think I would go with the UBR.
G
No can. (Anything NFA in Iowa is pretty much unobtainable)
Side note, just orderd a pair of PRS stock combos from you. (Replacing CAA setups on distance rifles). Black was back orderd, but figured I’d get on the wait list.
Good price for the combo! I was pricing out buying the extensions, springs, buffer + stock around $320each and having to do a multi-vendor extravaganza to get it done.
Roger on the no can. UBR’s lend themselves to front heavy guns IMHO. So you might do better with the CTR or MOE.

Side question on the SOPMOD and UBR…what do these actually weigh?
I am in the same situation as ryanm in that I have not held a UBR, but am thinking about one for a future build. Just wondering what the actual weight difference is between the SOPMOD and UBR and how they would balance.

The UBR is heavier than the SOPMOD.
C4
Thanks Grant. Are we talking a few ounces or something more significant weight-wise like half a pound?
Where are the postal scale UBR & SOPMOD owneres. ![]()
UBR is pretty heavy… without the tube and everything i believe is 1.25 pounds (20oz). the SOPMOD is about 12 ounces IIRC (cant find actual specs). the EMOD is 14oz. doesnt sound like a big difference, but when you pick up the gun you can feel all the weight is in the back with the UBR. perfect for nose heavy rifles like Grant says.
BTW I had a UBR and sold it. Loved the stock, but too heavy for the rifle it was going on. Would be good for a Recce style rifle with a scope or ACOG, long rail maybe a bipod, but not a CQB rifle IMO.
I’m with Grant on this one - I love the UBR on my 16" gun with a can, but I don’t like it for anything shorter/lighter. The CTR or MOE may be a better choice for this build, or possibly even the ACS when it’s available (assuming you can wait).
When is the ACS supposed to be available, and approximately how much will it weigh?
At SHOT the official word was that ACS will be due sometime in April, and to my knowledge nothing has changed. Regarding weight, you’re looking at about 0.75 pounds, which translates to ~0.25 pounds heavier than the CTR, ~0.5 pounds lighter than the UBR.
Repost of info I had written on another thread:
Stock choice really comes down to personal preference and that is not something that can be explained or decided over the internet. You really can’t go wrong with either stock.
Something I have learned about AR’s over the years is, it’s a game of matching the right part with the right gun. You may try a stock on a 10.5" SBR and hate it, and then try the same stock on a 16" mid-length carbine and fall in love with it.
Here is something I wrote in another thread in reference to my personal preferences on different stocks:
There are some accessories that I like across the board on all AR’s, there are other accessories that I may like on a 11.5" SBR but not like on a 16" Mid-Length or a 20" rifle.
Stocks can
-
help balance out a rifle
-
or if the stock too big or heavy can dominate the gun
-
and if it’s too small or too light can make the gun feel muzzle heavy
After trying several different configurations over the year, at the current time I have found that I like Magpul CTR’s on SBR’s and some 14.5" M4’s but I don’t like Mapgul CTR’s on 16" barreled mid-lengths or 14.5" guns with longer rail systems (9.0 - 13.2). The Magpul CTR is a light weight stock and doesn’t balance out a front heavy carbine well.
SOPMODs (for me) fit perfectly on a 14.5" M4, but can also balance most SBR’s and mid-lengths out fairly well.
Vltor EMods and Magpul UBRs balance out 16" Mid-Lenghts and most 18" gun with rifle length gas tubes quite well.
As a general rule I run:
-Magpul CTR’s on SBR’s (short barreled rifle) and some 14.5" M4’s (with carbine length rail system)
-SOPMODs only on 14.5" M4’s
-Vltor EMods and Magpul UBR’s only on 16" mid-lengths
-Magpul UBR’s on 14.5" - 16" barrels with longer rail systems (10.0 - 13.2) (example show above of a UBR on a Noveske with a 14.5" barrel and a 10.0 rail system)
I also recently had the chance to try a Magpul UBR on a 20" rifle and the UBR balanced out the rifle extreemly well.
Picture thread, so here goes…sorry if any of these are reposts:
Magpul CTR on a 11.5" Short Barreled Rifle:

Magpul CTR on 14.5" M4:

LMT SOPMOD on a 14.5" M4:

Magpul UBR on 16" Mid-Length:

Vltor EMod on a 16" Mid-Length:

Magpul UBR on a 14.5" Noveske N4 barrel with LaRue 11.0 rail:

Vltor EMOD on a plain 16" Mid-Length:

Hope this helps
S/F,
Jeff
SOPMOD 11 ounces
UBR 1.7
So there is a good amount of weight difference.
I run a SOPMOD, a CTR and a UBR. The all have their place. The UBR really shines on larger caliber weapons or 16" AR’s with cans on them (help balance them out). UBR’s on 16" M4 AR’s (no can) and SBR’s makes them more back heavy.
C4
My UBR’s reside on what would otherwise be VERY front-heavy rifles.
Worth the wait.

outstanding info…thanks for the replies and info!
