I just received an email from Magpul Industries and if I read it correctly my understanding is that they are going to discontinue all non-black MOE magazines by the end of 2014.
Personally I was under the impression that flat dark earth magazines were popular enough to keep them around.
Is moe mag the same as pmag?

Moving production to non black Gen 3 mags perhaps?
I believe so because here’s one of my wrappers for the PMAG 30 and it does have the letters MOE at the very top.
Maybe someone that knows more about Magpul can chime in and clear things up.

They are the same thing. The Moe series did not come with lip covers.

Yep. MOE mags are the MRev PMAG with the GEN M3 material and no dust covers.
So some AR PMAGs will still be available in colors other than black?
No later than the end of 2014, you will be able to buy all PMAGs in any color you want, as long as it’s black. All magazine skus, just black. Unless you have Cerakote, aervoe, krylon, a dip, or duracoat–then you can have any color you want.
It’s a matter of demand vs logistics. Non-black magazines are a very small part of demand, and maintaining inventory, materials flow, and reformulation/updating have all contributed to this move.
Mag material isn’t exactly the same as stock material, and if we reduce the number of raw material mixtures (mag colors) that we continually improve, we can devote more energy to the next generation of material.
Furniture will be unaffected, and will be available in colors.
Thank you for the reply. It makes sense. Too bad demand wasn’t high enough to maintain supply.
I’ve always just painted black mags. Maybe I’m part of the problem. ![]()
It won’t be immediate, and we’ll continue to fill open orders through distribution, but won’t continue ordering more material after a certain point.
I’ll be sure to blame you by name from now on… ![]()
Krylon is cheap but I liked my OD windowed mags…Off to Wal-Mart I shall go…
Thanks for the clarification Duane. I guess I’ll continue to stock up on colored mags while they are still available.
Kinda surprising given literally everyone at work who uses PMAGs (myself included) strictly use the FDE ones.
Fair enough point on just painting them, but I’m surprised the FDE ones don’t warrant being continued. They’re extremely popular in the military.
Interestingly enough the largest retailer of Magpul magazines in Jacksonville has rarely had anything but the black mags.
When they do have FDE, OD or Foliage they price them 20% higher than the black mags.
Although I love my FDE mags, I just can’t justify paying 20% more on the rare occasion that I can actually find some.
I would assume that if all colors were available at equal levels of inventory and price then the demand for FDE would be close to black.

It seems to me like a logic failure. Gen 3 Pmags only come in black, so colored Pmag sales are down. Who wants to buy magazines that the company markets as inferior? I have only bought enough Gen 3 Pmags to get by for now because I have been waiting for colored Gen 3 Pmags since the Gen 3 Pmags were introduced in 2012. To make a decision based on sales today is asinine. The question that should be asked before colored Pmags are discontinued is how were sales of colored vs black Pmags before Gen 3 was announced? I don’t know anyone who was buying black back then unless there was a shortage of FDE.
A mag’s a mag is a mag. If a mag holds ammo and functions reliably, what else does one really need? Does it really need to match your underwear?
Amen.
Now how am I supposed to get my Umbrella Corporation underwear to match with my Magpul zombie mags?
Too bad. Time to start wearing black underwear and socks like everyone else. ![]()
Just put painters tape over the window, that’s what I do.
