About 2 weeks ago, I benched and sighted in my new 14.5" build. I sighted in my iron sight (magpul pro sights) and noticed the rear was indexed all the way to the right. But was spot on so I left it be and sighted in my Aimpoint T1. I went shooting the other day l, and used my Aimpoint first, nickle sized groups at 25 yards dead center. Very happy. I flip up my Magpul Pro Sights and killed the red dot. Took 5 shots and they grouped 2 inches to the right of the earlier shots using my aimpoint. Took a few more shots and I realized somehow they “walked” I re sighted her in, went shooting this morning and they are off zero again. Yes the rail is clean and they are tight. The front is on a troy Aplha rail which hasn’t moved (used chalk to mark alignment). Is this a common problem? My red dot is spot on. Any solutions other then selling?
I know when I’ve zero’d BUIS with no optic mounted, when I put the optic back on (Aimpoint T2), there is POI shift when shooting w/ my BUIS whilst looking thru the glass of the T2… could that be what’s happening? I’ve noticed this happening with an Eotech EXPS3-0 as well.
*Did you zero the BUIS first, without the Optic mounted, then added the Optic and then re-checked your BUIS w/ the Optic installed?
When I sighted her in I Sighted the aimpoint first, then threw up thebuis and sighted her in. I get what your saying though, maybe the glass is throwing my sight picture off. I did resight her in off of the t1 the second time, and this morning they were off. Idk… i have a spare set of iron sights maybe I will install and see how they hold up. It’s likely your hand guard moving on the nut. I’ve seen this before. It’s not the sights.
Flip them up with the dot on… then torque on the front of the handguard/barrel to get lateral or vertical pressure on the hand guard… then check the irons against the dot to see if they POA has shifted. I’ll bet you can get it to move.
These long hand guards that are so common now have a lot of leverage from their only contact point on the barrel nut. I wanted to see if the 12.0 DD rail I have would shift, but it has a carry handle, and I don’t have an extra RDS to check this with.
My iron sight zero shifted slightly when I installed an Aimpoint ML2 on my carbine, so the need to make a minor adjustment would not be unexpected.
Are you absolutely certain you are placing your head in the same place on the carbine each time you shoot? Moving your head forward, backward, left and right can shift the POI. Canting the weapon will also have an effect.
Yea I am sure. I re sighted her in again today off of the red dot this time. I did notice the HG moving today… so im 99.9% sure thats the issue. She shot well though about a 1" group. 0nly time will tell now
