Ok, so I got my new MIAD, installed it and Im pretty happy with it. One thing concerned me though while reading the instructions. It said not to re-use old screw/washer combination and to use the supplied screw with factory applied locking compound[/COLOR].
Question is, is this screw for single use/permanent attachment only? I would think the blue stuff would come off once installed and uninstalled right?
I just put nail polish on the screws heheheeh. it never comes off. and i’ve removed my grip… 5-6 times already hehehe
If you use original A2 grip screw, it may enter the lower receiver because it’s about .25" longer than the MIAD screw. If you want to use the original screw, just cut it short and use the washer.
Here is the reply from Magpul:
Thank you for your inquiry. As long as your original [grip screw] is ¾” long you shouldn’t have a problem. If it is much longer than that it may protrude into your receiver…
oohh… I didn’t know that.
I guess Ill be bringing my nail polish to the range this weekend. Hahahahahaha! Will definitely try this if it comes loose.
If all else fails, will give andy t’s suggestion a go. Thanks!!
it never comes off. that’s what’s holding my 1911 grip screws as well. got it in the 1911 forum. holds it enough not to unscrew itself.
It is fine for 1-2 uses. No need to re-apply loctite.

I bought a Magpul grip also for a DDm4.The grip instructions says to “fit” the grip.Mine would not fit on to the lower so I had to file/sand a bit off the inside of the grip to get it to go on. It still isnt fitting all the way, because now the safety lever is lose. (the spring isnt all the way in) Also the screw was very hard to turn in.I was afraid I would strip the threads in the rifle. I figured Magpul would make a grip that would fit right onto the rifle. Not have to be fitted…anyone else have a problem like this? I put the original grip back on.
Hmm I have not had this problem before. Did you sand/file the inside of the MIAD where the grip portion of the receiver fits inbetween??
My guess is that you did not realize that you have to rock the MIAD back and forth to get the receiver to fit into it (is very tight).
The Screw is always hard to install. We install the screw FIRST (without the grip) to wear down the thread locker a little and THEN re-install it with the grip.

+1 very tight fit on my LMT I had to rock it back and forth and swear at it once to get it to fit ![]()
You have to screw the screw in under a perfect angle to get it to go in. I spend 20 minutes last weekend helping a friend install his. I found that angling the screw slightly towards the back while screwing in of the rifle made it go in easier.
I just dont think it should be that much of a pain to install…it should be made to go right on. What do they call that “drop in”
Yup! Took me a while to get it on and screw in as well. I think it’s the blue stuff that makes it hard to screw in. It actually got me worried that I cross threaded my receiver but I took it out and thankfully I didnt.
So it’s just the thread locker then? Mine almost felt oversized so I didn’t want to force it. The regular screw and washer has been working just fine though.
I had to dress the inner mating surfaces of my MIAD with a file a bit too. No big, it’s still solid. Grant made a great suggestion though, seat the grip screw once BEFORE attempting it with the grip in place…saves a lot of sweat and swearing ![]()
May be I’m just lucky but I just use RRA hex screws on my 2 miads because I hate flathead grip screws, but I’ve had no issues.
Yup, looks like… Im tempted to take it off again to check… again… Will post if I do so.
If the screw is too long it can protrude into the receiver and keep the trigger from engaging or fully engaging the hammer sear.
Most grip screws are not too long, but I would not rely on luck when you could have made a rifle that dumps the entire mag when you chamber a round.
That’s a darn good idea. Thanks for the tip, Grant.
I have found the MIAD a bit tight, but nothing a bit of elbow-grease (ie, torque) wouldn’t fix.
It is supposed to fit tight and sometimes you need to muscle it but never fle.
