Grant . . . what are the differences between the civilan and the military CTR stocks?
The civy CTR is made for non Mil-Spec receiver exntension (buffer tubes). This would include companies like RRA, BM, Oly, DPMS, etc.

I believe you can get different color lock plates that identify what type of ammo is loaded in the mag.
Magpul uses a standard military color code.
Black/ tactical colors = FMJ/JHP
Purple = the shooting range prefered ammo
Red = live fire FMJ
Orange = Frangible
Yellow = Range defined
Blue = non-lethal such as paint ball
Bright green = blanks
Sky blue = Dummy non firing rounds
White = for low light, night ops
