Magpul Fixed Carbine MOE length of pull

I just swapped a collapsible MOE for the fixed carbine MOE on my SPR build after having it recommended by a few guys. Overall I like the stock, but its just to dang short. Its at least 1" if not in the neighborhood of 1.5" shorter than a full extended collapsible stock. I feel REALLY crowded on the gun. To be fair I have not shot the gun, but I just cant get comfortable on the gun just messing around with it. I have the longest spacer(non ASAP compatible one) on the stock. Any idea’s for how to lengthen this or is it just how it is? I dont think it can go to much further back because the cross bolt would hit the area on the stock where the detents for the collapsible stock go. I guess I really should have gotten some measurements before ordering it. I have a KAK industries carbine length pistol tube with the shoulder on it I could toss on and that might allow me to move it back further, but then it might be to far back.

I got this because I dont feel like I need an adjustable PRS or Luthar or other adjustable since my cheek hits the stock and my eye goes right in line with the scope perfectly so adjustable cheek piece seems a waste to me. Adjustable LOP would be great, but I feel like I can get something to work without spending tons of money on a stock.

I have a few of the fixed carbine stocks and like them a lot. If you want a longer LOP, the PRS extended pad fits . . . this one http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG350/35

It adds almost an inch for about $15, might be worth a shot.

I like this stock too.
I’d use the pad during warm weather, and remove for winter.
Heavy winter gear made up the difference.

If you cut down the tab on the ASAP spacer, and sand down the other spacer, you can use both spacers on an A5 short rail extension. Ruins the value if you want to resell it, but it’s an option. Or you could make your own 2nd spacer.

Magpul says it only adds about .5", which IMO wont be enough. I have messed with the extended pad on the MOE’s for a guy we were trying to do a little recoil mitigation for. If its the same pad it wont really add enough. Im thinking I need to add at least an inch if not 1.5". Im not above using a spacer in front of the stock and short extension piece if it works, just have no clue where to buy said spacers. KAK industries makes some, but I have no clue what diameter they are.

I would rather not get into modifying anything YET since if I cant get this thing to work, im just going to offload it.

I never thought of myself as somebody with long arms, but this thing is just short. I run the collapsible carbine stocks at full length and they are just about perfect. I guess I am trying to not drop 150-250 on an adjustable stock that would probably never get adjusted. I also feel an A2 rifle stock would be to long and I dont feel like they ride a rear bag very well.

So, about how many slots out on a 6 position Carbine receiver extension with a CTR is the equivalent to the MOE-fixed LOP with the non-asp spacer? Thanks

The pad measures 7/8".

Let me go shoot a pic of a gun with an MOE collapsible and the MOE fixed and ill let you know.

I think the stock pad is 1/4", maybe 3/8". Magpul states it adds .5" which sounds about right when you remove the factory thin pad.

10-4.
You are correct.

Fully extended MOE on carbine extension

MOE on notch 2(of 5) lines up just about perfectly… ETA: I guess its notch 3 of 6. Fully collapsed, 1, then 2 is where it matches then 4, 5, 6.

Excellent! Thanks Robert:cool:

Magpul says the fixed rifle MOE has a LOP of 13.3". The fixed carbine I just measured to ~11 7/8". The collapsible MOE carbine at full extension is right at !13.5". All of these were measured from center of trigger to center of stock.

So it looks to me like this thing wont work for me without moving it out 1.5" roughly. I think I am going to swap to a rifle extension and the fixed rifle MOE stock. Should get me rocking again.

The only setup I would ever consider running a fixed carbine stock on would be a strictly close quarters rifle, like a SBR, to be used with a red dot and fired only from squared-up CQB positions and/or with armor. IMO it is completely the wrong setup for a scoped rifle like yours… you will always be struggling with eye relief and head position, and will always be scrunching your head back uncomfortably on the stock if you try to do any type of precision-oriented shooting. I have a fixed MOE rifle stock on my scoped A4 and love it. I use it with the extended PRS butt pad to get it to A2 length, which is perfect for shooting nose to charging handle in prone for me.

I 100% agree. I already stated I had no clue on the LOP when I bought it and should have researched it more. I was hoping for a solution maybe to push this one back, but after measuring and looking at things, its not possible. Just the wrong tool for the job. Hopefully people can learn from my error.

I went to the hardware store and bought a length of 3/4 PVC tubing and cut it just long enough to fill the space between the stock cap and the end plate. I made a split in the tube so I could stretch it over the RE and slide it all the way up. I fitted it so there was just enough room to slide the cross screw into place just ahead of the ridge the adjustable stock slides on. The spacer was given a rough contour job to match the cap. I didn’t take into account the fact that the threads of the milspec RE are a little larger in diameter than the tube, so when the spacer was slid into place, it stood a little proud. That’s okay, the charging handle clears it and it gets the job done. I hit the spacer with a bit of paint so it would match. I didn’t take any photos while I was fabbing the spacer, but here it is painted and installed

This stock is on my M&P-10. The RE might be a bit longer than carbine REs on smaller ARs. Without the spacer, the stock will slide forward under recoil. I’m going to work on adding a thick PRS recoil pad and see how that works. I’m also looking at fabbing up a block to adapt Decelerator recoil pad.

One idea I may try is to slide the stock back a bit further and drill a hole through the RE adjustment ridge and run the cross screw through that

Problem is I need to move the stock around 1.5" and there aint no way I am getting that long of a spacer in there. I already off-loaded this stock and will be looking at other options today that most likely will revolve around a rifle length extension tube. Going to check out the Magpul Fixed Rifle and a Luth-AR adjustable. I dont think I want to pop for a PRS, plus the thing is heavy as hell.

As already pointed out the Fixed RIFLE stock from Magpul is the better choice. Might as well be running the rifle buffer system too.

I love the Fixed Carbine stock. It’s on my Home Defense 10.5". Like Henschman posted… it’s right at home on a CQB shorty… one of the strongest feeling stocks I’ve ever handled. I don’t think my dumb as could even break it.

im running the JP silent capture spring and light weight carrier. There is a spacer plug they send you with the spring for a rifle tube so im covered there.

I know what you’re saying on the short LOP with an eye relief optic. Drives me nuts.
