I don’t know, that Ops-inc brake on the mk12 mod1 will give the HK91 a run for its money on blast. I have the standard flash hider on my 91 and its not too bad to shoot around folks. The only issue I have is brass flying into the next state to the right. I’d have to try to be the very last guy on the line or everyone in between is going to get hot-brassed.
I think I’ll shoot the crap out of both for the week prior to the course and decide from there. I am going to call to sign up on Monday.
I’m still concerned on the max range, if 300WM or bigger is coming out to me that means 1000+ yard targets. I’ve never shot 5.56mm at a 1000 yard target. I’m not even comfortable shooting 7.62 at that range. I’d rather bring a .338LM for that kind of stretch. I have a 93b that’s NIB, but I have zero .338LM trigger time and very little ammo for that rifle.
By far, taking a 5.56 SPR rifle would give me the best overall experience due to familiarity. However, I’d like to try to “get my learn on” and branch out a bit. I’ve always had a sweet spot for the HK91 series rifles, just never had the training or significant trigger time to improve. Maybe taking it to this class would be just what I needed to make those changes. I’ve got one built as well as I can without swapping barrels and converting to an MSG90.
I’ve watched all the Magpul dynamics videos, and I can’t imagine the quality of the instruction would be any less so that makes me want to bring my best game face. But sometimes, its good to put yourself out on a ledge where your out of your depth to adapt and discover new potential. For me, that would be to drag the HK out and see what happens. I’m not trying to stop booger-eaters from world domination in west Pueblo, so I can enjoy the serenity of the scenery and try to make little holes as best I can.
If you have the room in the vehicle, take them all, seriously.
Having said that, at my last precision class I was glad to take what I was most familiar with as I knew a mistake at the target was mine and not equipment related.
I noticed that our 2-day class has the same sylabus as the 5-day Precision rifle class. Was interested in hearing how the two day version will go- are we just going to cover the same material, just faster- or are we going to concentrate on certain things? What we can do to be properly prepared for the class so we can hit the ground running?
