I’m looking at the MagPul CTR for a Bushmaster M4gery. Is the install as easy as it looks in the instructions (downloadable technote)? Do I have to remove the buffer tube before installation or do I slide the old stock off and the new one right on?
Also, how do I know if my buffer tube is commercial or mil-spec? I assume mine is commercial.
Sorry if it’s been covered before. I searched for “CTR” and actually didn’t find any links!

Your Bushmaster has commercial tube if its original. To install the CTR is very easy. Remove factory stock but pulling down on the lever.
No if you look at the CTR you’ll see a metal bar near the lockup lever protruding on both sides of the stock. Pull on that down while sliding the stock over the receiver extention. Once you’ll get it in the last position (fully extended) your done.

It’s very easy, Jim. Just make sure you order the Commercial CTR and not a mil-spec. There will be a “spacer butt-pad” attached to the end, as can be seen here: http://www.magpul.com/pdfs/technotes/ctr/buffertubeid.pdf Just don’t try to force a CTR over your tube - if you are having problems, shoot me a PM and I’ll help you out.

+1 on the easy installation, just push down on both ends of the pin below the rear lever while sliding it in.
Something was wrong with my picture because I shown a commercial CTR stock which have a slightly thicker rubber buttpad than the Mil-spec CTR version, it’s mounted on my Mil-spec buffer tube LMT carbine.
My dealer gave me the wrong commercial model for my Mil-spec buffer tube carbine, it fits fine except when in the fully closed position it moves around.
When my dealer sent me the correct Mil-spec CTR model it fits snug and no movement at all in the fully closed position.

You should use the commercial variant if you don’t want to have to remove you factory installed receiver extension (buffer tube). Check with Grant at www.gandrtactical.com or w/Paul at www.bravocompanyusa.com
The CTR does kick ass. All the ones I own are the mil-spec ones. I use VLTOR 5pos mil-spec receiver extensions. I also drill a hole in the top of the stock body so that I can use the numbers that the VLTOR tube has to index what stop I’m at.
Here’s me shooting a Oly M16 with my wifes 11.5" SBR w/ARES gas piston conversion upper on it.
The AK Concepts comp works pretty well to on my SAR1.
The CTR stock is an excellent stock. If you’ve never installed one it can be tricky removing the old one depending on your rifle. It’s not difficult if you use good technique and have the right tools. Here’s 3 rifles that I use the CTR stocks on. Bushmasters stocks usually come off pretty easily.

Not Fredericksburg.
The ARES worked well for about 600rounds and then had the roll pin walk out which then allowed the op rod to bend. It need a much better system to mount the spigot to the FSB.
Awe crap… and I was going to spend all of my cash on lower recievers… I think I am going to have to get one of these as well. That is just too pretty (refering to the AK:D 
) .
Who has the best price on the CTR stocks?
I don’t know if I got the best price but I got my Mil-spec CTR model without the rubber buttpad for $90 (MSRP $97) which I got from my local dealer.
I’ve seen the commercial CTR version with rubber buttpad for $109 (MSRP $117).
