Hello all. I’m preparing to build my first AR and I need a vise block setup. Have any of you tried the Magpul BEV block? It looks like it will do the upper and lower. Any other suggestions for good quality vise blocks for building AR uppers and lowers? Thanks for any help.

You will get a lot of recommendations for the Giessele Reaction Rod for the upper. I have a Bev Block, and it works fine for the lower, but you don’t need much for the lower. I have not tried it with an upper yet.
Bev block is great! Only vise tool I need!
When your torquing stuff down though insert the bolt carrier in it aswell for stability.
Works fine with my BCM and M&P uppers.
I put an upper together using a Bev Block a few weeks ago. It worked very well.
Just ordered one to use for my SPR build. Everything I’ve read so far has been positive.

Thanks for all the input. The Botach reaction rod is tempting, but if the BEV block will handle the upper and lower, I suppose it’s my best bet. I have 2 builds going together as soon as my parts come back from the cerakoter.

There’s a thread, I think in the technical forum, where people are saying the BEV doesn’t fit in some uppers.
It’s worked on all my Laure, DD and bcm uppers!

Used mine today to build an upper. The having to take the bolt out the BCG to use it as support is kinda stupid but it does work. For what it cost, they could have included a rod that worked the same way and was also able to use the carrier if you lost your rod. I’ll probably make one and keep them together.
It is very strong though. I was a little weary about it as I’m used to the clamshell style but it didn’t budge. The upper isn’t retained solid to where it won’t move at all on the fixture but it definitely was not going anywhere.
