From today’s (19 Jan 23) DoD contract announcements. Wonder who the other two bidders were?
Magpul Industries Corp.,* Austin Texas, has been awarded a maximum $20,076,393 firm-fixed-price contract for gun magazines. This was a competitive acquisition with three responses received. This is a three-year base contract with two one-year option periods. The performance completion date is Jan. 18, 2026. Using military services are Army and Navy. Type of appropriation is fiscal 2023 through 2026 defense working capital funds. The contracting activity is the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, Columbus, Ohio (SPE7LX-23-D-0035).
Researched this award on DIBBS, there are two NSN’s being ordered - 1005-01-615-5169 (Black) and 1005-01-659-7086 (Medium Coyote Tan). I don’t know - do the Army and Navy order separate colors?
There’s nothing official. Black may be $1 cheaper if I remember right. I’ve seen them occasionally but for a tiny bit more of fake money, there’s no reason not to get coyote.
IIRC, one of the military’s original concerns was that metal mags work better in Arctic conditions, when plastic can become brittle. Evidently, modern polymers have overcome that problem.
