For example, an ACOG with a T-1 mounted angled to the side.
If you’ve tried it, please chime in. Thanks.

I do and it works very well.
The advantages include being able to switch from a magnifired optic to a red dot with just a quick cant of the gun vs throwing a cat tail attached to the power ring of a scope. I have also run just straight low power variables and a Aimpoint with a flip to side magnifier. All systems work but I find this one works the best overall. The one down side is when you negotiate a corner on your strong side you end up leading with the magazine of the gun exposing yourself early or you have to use the magnified optic. Not a big deal if you have a lower powered magnifired optic. It does suck if your running a fixed 4x however.

I have also used the TA31 and TA33 in this configuration before.

Here are some videos of me running the off set optic in some three gun matches. The biggest advantage of this set up is when you have to transition from long targets to short targets in the same shooting area. Basically using your scope power ring is about as time consuming as doing a reload.

In this stage I used the red dot because I found it faster than using my Swarovski on 1x while shooting on the move. I was shooting open class.
In this stage same as above except it was tac optics so I had the red dot covers on and used the scope at 1x.

Here is another stage where I used the rifle with the red dot on the close targets, then used the scope on some targets at 70 yards with head shots through the barrel (scope set on 3 x) then back to the red dot while shooting on the move.

Great stuff thanks.
Would this setup work for a lefty?
Obviously reverse the mount; however, I would be bouncing shell casings off my right arm.
Any other issues for lefties in this setup?
I never did this set up but have seen it at matches…didnt work well for those I saw shooting that set up. I prefer the aimpoint 3x with larue flip mount.
access to the control knob and windage adjustment.
Really because I find it works very well. The magnifier however is not popular at all in matches. The problem with magnifiers is limited field of view and short eye relief. Plus with a red dot you don’t have a good way to deal with long range targets. You can’t really dial in different zeros easily and you have no hold over points. The only place I see red dots is in limited class where magnifiers are not allowed. Also side mounted optics like my set up put you in Open the division I shoot in.

I can adjust for hold over pretty good even with a red dot. But if you want more accuracy for longer range maybe the TR24 with cross hairs. But I see your point if youre looking for longer range accuracy a hifgh power scope with red dot might be better.
