I tried a search and didn’t come up with anything.
PRI, Barret, and C-Products seem to be the players. C-Products is a non-starter for me, and I think I recall seeing something about the Barrets being a little short front to back?
What’s the consensus on these things currently? Factoring out any market madness availability issues.
I have some (6 I think) steel PRI 6.8 mags that I got about 4 years ago.
They worked just fine, but I don’t think I shot more than 500 rounds out of my 6.8.
I tested them all for follower function and hand-cycled them all (:o) with no issues.
The Barrett’s seem to be the consensus on the best 6.8mm mag out there with the PRI’s a close second (or vice-versa depending on who you ask). I’ve been shooting 6.8mm since before loaded ammo was available and I’ve actually had great luck with the CProducts mags. Some of the earlier ones required slight modification to the feed lip angle to work with all ammo types, but the latest that I’ve gotten have run great out of the box. At $14 a piece direct, it’s tough to not at least consider them (PRI and Barrett fall in the $30 to $40 range).
I’ve heard it’s hit or miss with Barretts, I have about 30 PRIs in different lengths most are the new 25 rnd waffle mags. I’ve shot 6-800 a month testing uppers for the last 3 years. Only issue I’ve ever had was with a POF lower that has a large mag well, it let the mag bottom move back tilting the lips down and stuffed the bullet tip below the feed ramp.
Have around 4K rounds downrange since 04 on C-products and PRI mags, have not had any issues with either as of yet. Disclaimer-they have not been run very hard or put through a class as of yet either.
CP just really concerns me. Having had nothing but problems with every product of theirs I have ever tried makes me wary of anything they produce. If I have to buy two at $17/ea just to get one to work, that’s really a $34 magazine.
We’ve had no significant issues with Barrett or PRI. The C-Products have been about a 50% proposition, however, we have not tried them in the last year or so.
I’m just like you Rob. I’ve got ZERO interest in CProd’s mags. Go with the PRI Waffle Mags my man. They RUN, and they are built really well/sturdy. Never had a single issue with mine. When you handle them, (if you haven’t already), you will INSTANTLY be glad you ordered them. They just feel good in the hand, and the WORK.
Same here. I have many PRI’s 20 round 6.8 mag’s and after several thousand rounds not one malfunction of any kind. I like the PRI 20 rounders best. They are a tad shourter than Colt type 5.56 30 round mag’s and just a little longer than say a Magpul P20 in 5.56…just right & built like a tank.
I have about 6, 25 round PRI Waffle mags and 3, 5 round C-Prod mags. I only bought the 5 rounders for hunting purposes, C-Prod was the only game in town at that time. Now PRI has a Waffle Pattern 5 rounder
I would never buy High-cap C-Prod mags but the 5 rounders work fine as it only takes the first round to get the job done…
about 6 months ago i ordered 10 C products 17 round mags. they have all been GTG for me. these are the new mags with the gray 6.8 marked followers though. the old browm follower mags can be unreliable from what i’ve heard.
in the last 2 months I’ve gotten both PRI waffles and the C-products in 25 rounders.
The PRI are hands down the nicest AR type mags I have ever seen. construction is amazing and execution was perfect. they are stiffer and much better built than the CP ones.
Dont know about barret, but the waffle design of the PRI (helps with tactile and visual distunguishing of calibers), the longer round length allowed and the construction makes it seem like the best choice.
Im running all Barrett mags, I have an order through 44mag.com for a few C Products mags (including a 5 round mag for hunting) that I am still waiting on. Barrett mags have been flawless.
