I’m a long time shooter and recently purchased a new Wilson 1911 in 10mm/40S&W. Using the Wilson 10mm mags while running the 40 S&W barrel I had numerous failure to lock the slide back with both target and full power 40 carry loads. Do I need to purchase 40S&W mags from Tripp Research?
No problems while running 10mm loads but the Wilson 10 mags seem cheaply made compared to the quality of the 1911. I have about 250-300 rounds through it… half 10mm and half 40.

Sounds as if it should have a lighter recoil spring for 40. Slide isn’t coming all the way back to allow the follower to raise the slide stop into the slide recess. If it doesn’t improve in another 300 rds it might require a switch. I’d call Wilson for their recommendation on mags or recoil spring.

That never entered my mind… I must be getting old (actually I am and that’s probably the problem ;o)
Reading on another site that’s pretty heavy into .40 1911’s shows that Tripp 10mm mags are very common for running .40, particularly when loaded to longer OAL’s for more reliable feeding. Lots of guys in particularly running the STI Trojan prefer them.

When the pistol ejects the spent cases, how does the distance compare for 40S&W vs 10mm? If you’re not getting 7’+ with the 40S&W but you are with the 10mm, then I’d just try a lighter recoil spring with the 40S&W. Actually, I’m very surprised that they didn’t give you a separate recoil spring for each setup as there’s a definite difference in recoil between the two.

Yes, Wilson supplied two different recoil springs. One for the .40 and one for the 10mm.
I ordered four Tripp 10mm mags and they’ll be here this week. I’ll do a follow up report.
