My Fiance is moving to the plain clothes division at her PD and she is trying to figure out what pouches to use with her Glock 22 and off duty G23. I have SKD and comptac mag pouches and they are good but she wants some that are clip on and maybe leather with a clip.
What mag pouches are good to go and are any of them better for ladies attire than men attire?
is she trying to hide the magazine under clothing? i am pretty sure that most of the clip on options i’ve seen are pretty bad for concealment. the best options are all pancake kydex style and those either come in iwb loop or thread through belt loops.
if kydex is an option i would say go check out psholster.com.
if she’s concealing under clothing that has space but isn’t baggy (hiking shirt, tshirt, etc), then outside waistband should be ok and iwb would probably be even better.
if she’s trying to conceal under form fitting female clothing… i don’t have experience with that and i would say it’s very difficult to hide gun parts under form fitting lady clothing without a cover garment (jacket, duster, sweater, etc).
just to add, there is a female on youtube with the channel name faliaphotography. she does women’s concealed carry videos and product reviews. i haven’t specifically seen her do a magazine carrier review, but it’s only a matter of time i’m sure.
My favorite are those from Ready Tactical and KytexGear.com…simple but effective.

Well I don’t know how much this will help but when I was working plain clothes I used the blackhawk single mag pouches. They are kydex/plastic. I had a sweatshirt on so concealment was not an issue for me. they have good retention. I did plenty of running/jumping/grabbing/tackling and never had a problem.

The thicker belt mount gives it greater offset from the body, which has been liked by a number of female officers and CCWers. For males and straighter torso contours, it allows more clearance for greater grasp of the mag.

I am also plain clothes LE, and after trying all different mag holders, I find raven concealment to be the best. They are much more concealable then any others I have tried and reloads are very fast from them.
I’ve used Raven and the Custom Carry Concepts BMC (Basic Magazine Carrier). The BMC is a good, affordable, minimalist carrier.
I’m a huge fan of kytexgear mag pouches in regards to kydex mag pouches. They stay very close to the body. I also owned Blackhawk! mag pouches, and while great regarding retention they stick out way to far for plain clothes.

I work plain clothes and keep it all concealed. My favorite for the past 15 or so years has been the Mitch Rosen SOS. It holds a mag and a light and they are splayed to aid in concealment. It also pitches the mag forward a bit making it easier for me to find/draw.
There is a less expensive version available from Dillon/Blue Press. You can also get it with 2 mags instead of a mag/light combo.
When I worked plainclothes I used the OEM glock plastic mag pouch. I know it looks stupid but it works.
Funny, but I recently picked up a Glock mag pouch on a whim, and it has replaced my Kytex pouch for concealed carry.
It’s definitely not sexy, but as you say, it works.

This. Perfectly stable and secure enough that if you catch something while sitting down you’ll break the pouch rather than have it come off.
i wore comptac mag pouches for months while waiting for my custom kydex gear to arrive. i would suggest looking at an alternative.
the mag pouches are designed for competition use. the magazines sit high on the belt and the attachment mechanisms are stacked on the magazine instead of being pancaked. these two characteristics make the magazine and the carrier print very strongly, the magazine sits high and pokes out of the garment and the magazine carrier sits far away from the body which exacerbates. forgeting bending over, even with a heavy cover garment like a jacket, you will have a back or a side boner.
also since the magazine sits high in the comptac mag pouch it is able to torque the carrier as it has a longer lever arm and this makes the magazine and carrier wiggle as you walk. since the attachment point is stacked on the magazine instead of being pancaked or winged on the sides, this prevents the carrier from being able to resist the wiggling, something custom kydex style pouches are able to do very well.
the comptac mag pouch also lacks any excess material at the bullet tip end of the carrier, this feature helps your butt to press the magazine into the body, something that almost all kydex magazine carriers have as a feature.
for these reasons i would not recommend the comptac magazine carriers as a concealment option. however, in the end it depends on how important concealment is to you.
i know i have said many negative things about comptac magazine carriers for concealment. however, i do love my comptac magazine carriers, i just use them on an overt carry rig.
I agree with this 100%. A lot of the mag holders mentioned here work fine for competition but really print quite badly when worn for concealment. As I mentioned above, raven have been the best in my experience. I also have del fatti, Mitch Rosen, and milt sparks leather mag holders, and while they work ok for single stack mags, they still print more than the RCS.
I’ve done some plainclothes work, before being promoted, with my agency’s Crime Suppression Unit and also while assigned to a local Federal task force.
Definitely a +1 for RCS (Raven Concealment Systems)!
