mag pouch question

i just bought a maratime ciras and need some opinions on what type of mag pouches i should be mounting on it . and where to get them as most of the eagle products are unavailable due to the military contract . i want the best - money is no object , thanks

if you are looking for Eagle brand pouches I would suggest looking here:

www.triadtactical.com
www.operationparts.com
www.skdtac.com

I just looked at their inventory and depending on what color and style
you want they do have some pouches available. As far as for what
style of pouch you want to get and how to arrange it I would think
that depends on what you actually need the CIRAS for? Is it for duty
or for personal use?

One thing that I have noticed with some CIRAS users (if they are running
both hard and soft armor) is that they tend to stick with the single M4
kydex pouches in the front as the bulk from the armor pushes the pouch
to far out if using a dual M4 pouch. But once again YMMV. Also, you
might want to consider how everything is going to ride if you need to go
prone.

How about figuring out what you think will work for you then actually
using it in a tactical carbine class? Most people “figure out” what works
and what doesn’t work for them within the first day.

Hope this helps.

thanks !

The BEST and mission need are frequently disjoint

what do you plan to do

yeah , i wound up cannibalizing the assorted pouches i had on my blackhawk rack . i have a mix of various manufacturers and will go from there . i’ll be using the ciras for some work related stuff , i also plan on taking some classes one of these days , as well as doomsday scenarios .

Check out Specter gear pouches. IMOO they are the nicest pouches out there. I’m curently testing some new pouches from 5.11 and they are also very nice. Strong materials, nice stitching, very well made. Good luck!

Is the full 5.11 tactical Nylon line made in china like their clothes? (don’t mean to hijack the thread)

Happy to help. But I need a little more info.

What is the primary duty which will require your armor, weapons, and ammunition.

What is the environment? I understand that you are a NYC policeman, so I assume dense urban, unless your intent lies elsewhere.

How much ammunition/gear do you need to carry?

Will you be carrying a sidearm? How?

Shotgun?

Communication assets?

Hydration system? Assault/3-day pack (assuming not dense urban police work)?

ID features?

Most probable firing positions?

Required to drive a vehicle or operate equipment?

For the best opinion on optimal gear placement and selection the more I know the more I can help.

If you want a simple default answer- Two emergency/speed reload pouches (like the eagle FB) on the support side, offset from center. Two to three double capacity magazine pouches, one behind the speed reload pouches, the other two on the strong side. Possibly two single capacity magpouches on the front center (low-profile like Triad Tactical Flop Top).

I went with 4 double mag pouches on the front (favored from the weak side towards the centerline) . with 2 utility pouches above that . one more double pouch on the right strong side . on the back i have a camelpak (middle ) , to the left of that i have a radio holder , and on the right of the camelpak i have a blowout kit . i use a safariland 6004 for my pistol and i’ll probably go with my pistol mags on my 1st line belt . right now i’m more configured for non work related things (plan on taking some classes) . i’ll be going to the range next week and seeing how comfortable everything sits and adjusting from there . thanks for the help and advise !

Practice a lot with your loadout. Reload all of your magazines from standing, kneeling and prone. Practice transitions. Run about 200 yards at a dead sprint.
This will help you start identifying issues.

I highly recommend getting at least one open-top type pouch for speed/emergency reloads. Also recommend a dump pouch, though I only keep my Vagisil in there.
