My M4 is zero’d using M855, I have an ACOG with a BDC based off of M855, however upon arriving in country I was handed a big bag of delinked M955 and don’t have a range to confirm zero on here. Are they “close enough” or will I be pretty off?
Short answer is you should re-zero your weapon with the M955 ammunition, if that’s going to be your primary load.
The M855 is 62gr. and the M955 is 52gr. The M955 has a higher muzzle velocity of almost 300 fps faster. However, I think you should be fairly close out to 300 meters or so, beyond that I’m unsure. I think it’s similar to the difference between the M193 55gr. and the M855 out of a 1/7 twist barrel, you can hit an E-type silhouette out to around 300 meters but it is not the exact same POA/POI. You may notice more ricochets with this round and it will pass thru objects that in your experience an M855 may not, be aware of your targets background. Please follow up with your actual experience with this round. Also zero the first opportunity you have, this is something I would not blow off.
I’d be intersted in anything and everything relative to your experiences with M955 since this is the first time I’ve heard of anyone actually laying hands on any. Never met anyone in the military that had even actually seen it.
M995 generally follows M16A1 trajectory tracks (it’s fast and flat). It also groups half the size of M855 out to 300 meters (bonus!).
Is there anything NOT more accurate than M-855?
If what I have heard and read is true M855A1.
My pulled bullet reloads shoot way better than factory M855.
I would definitely re-zero with that light AP bullet.
How well do they stabilize in 1x7?
For those of you who were asking, I apologize I can’t provide much. It seems to be making it’s way through the channels though as the entire company I am with is carrying it.
With what was a 100m zero with M855, my group was about 2" low on a 25m zero. After a flight across the world and a 7k elevation change I decided not to mess with it since I couldn’t actually confirm at 100 (and I remember when we “zerod” at 25 and confirmed at 100 it was quite different and needed elevation adjustments).
Unless I use it for real that’s the best I can provide.
