Former prosecutor fatally shoots man who shot grandmother
Steve is a good dude and I hope this is over soon for him.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Good shoot, anywhere to donate to a defense fund?
The comments from the deceased family and friends are ridiculous. They make it seem like him shooting his grandmother was no big deal and she wasn’t in any harm.
I hope the warning shot doesn’t land the guy in hot water.
Will try to find out.
Sellers, a former prosecutor, was getting ready for work when he said he heard shouting, then a gunshot, then a woman’s voice crying “Don’t shoot me,” according to his attorney George Laughrun.
According to Laughrun, Sellers went outside and saw Coleman waving a gun and a female “cowering between cars” asking the gunman not to shoot her.
Sellers got his rifle, fired a warning shot and told Coleman, who was about 30-to-40 feet away, to drop his gun.
“And at that time the suspect did not to put down the gun and the homeowner shot the suspect,” Lt. Sells said.
Laughrun said Coleman pointed the gun at his client, and Sellers fired three more shots, hitting Coleman in the chest.
Sounds like an open and shut lawful defensive shooting. I’m sure the local police and prosecutor will have to do a complete and slow investigation to head off any accusations of favoritism or racism, but I don’t see anything in the story to use against the former prosecutor.
Agree, it’s amazing how people think. She was not in danger (clearly trying to kill her). Shoot him in the leg (near impossible shot), or shoot him in the waist (probably kill him after he suffers for a while in extreme pain and has time to shoot back) Leave tactics to people who actually learn them. People are stupid.
Oh for ****s sake
"A woman who did not want to give her name but identified herself as a friend of Coleman’s said “that man didn’t have to kill him like that and I understand he felt he was going to help that lady but he could have shot him in a defense tactic, like his waist.”
She said the homeowner “could have hit him in his leg if he was really trying to defend and diffuse a situation.”

I hope he’s cleared quickly and without drama for him considering the situation.
Sounds like everyone in their right mind should be glad that Steve S. was armed and had the fortitude to put himself at risk in order to save this lady. I’m sure he wishes it didn’t need to happen, prayers for him and his family.
Based on the comments from the, “unnamed friend”, it sounds like the hero would have diffused the situation by simply racking the slide of a shotgun, and telling the scumbag, who just shot his own grandmother, in a very polite way, not to shoot anyone else, or his grandmother again.
Christ, Almighty, what world do I live in?
I only know what is reported in the news. This is a bad situation, but it could have been worse. Steve did the right thing and the world is a better place now.

This guy is confronted by a young man with a pistol assaulting an old woman who is pleading not to be shot AGAIN. The woman is bleeding form a gunshot wound inflicted by the criminal assailant.
The family member of the criminal has the nerve to ask “Why couldn’t he just shoot him in the leg? Why did he have to kill him?”.
She is asking the wrong question.
Why didn’t he just shoot the gun out of the guys hand like they do in the movies?
Sheesh.
I’m willing to go out there on a limb and say If you’re willing to shoot your own Grandmother, you’re pretty much deserving of being put down.
Best of luck to Steve. I hope this ends quickly and doesn’t drag on forever. From what I’ve read it looks like a good shoot. If the guy is willing to shoot his own grandmother odds are he is willing to shoot others too.
The excuses began early in the article.
Relatives and friends say Coleman suffered from hallucinations and post traumatic stress. It’s unclear what triggered the shooting in the car.
There is a huge amount of ignorance and downright stupidity in the OPs original article from the friends and family of the dude trying to murder his grandmother. Like faceplate them in the face with a chair levels of stupidity.
I have to ask, since this is M4C…
what rifle did he use?
Yea just shoot him in the knee. Cause we all know he can’t shoot back after that

Is it probably the best NOT answer that question. The media is going to call it an assault weapon, but why prove it beyond a doubt?
At a minimum ask his permission to disclose it first.
