Hello all. Im getting ready now to buy a M4. What do you feel is best to do, but the gun in a complete package or piece it together? I still have alot to learn, so all help and points of views are welcome.
Your gonna get this locked down ASAP with that question.

Hello, welcome to the forum. There is a ton of good information on here, from many reputable people. High quantities of knowledge can be obtained from using the search feature, and it will more than likely be beneficial to simply begin reading.
All that aside, building a rifle is an enjoyable experience, but it isn’t for every first timer. Decide what role you want your rifle to fill, then pick from one of the many good options you have when it comes to manufacturers.
If you decide to build, buy quality parts from good manufacturers.
G&R tactical is a good place to start.
What are the best stickies to read up on? Ive been reading some boucing around on them. I havnt came across a solid answer yet.

First of all, Welcome to the forum! Since you getting ready to get your M4 we suggest you click on the top on SEARCH and do some search since there is plenty of threads already with people in the same situation like you (trust me, I was one too)
Also, you can browse yourself thru the Stickies on the top of the forum where you will find very VALUABLE information written and commented by a lot of people who have PLENTY of experiences with the platform.
Quick tip, most of us here will recommend you 99% of the time a Colt 6920, why? because is cheap, reliable and will not fail you if you take proper care of it. Now on the building a rifle side, If you really want to build it from the ground you would definitely need a lot of reading since there is so many options and modifications you can do to it.
And last of all, Hope you enjoy and learn everything you can in here.

The orange search button is your friend. Try reading ALL of the stickies here in AR GD or over at AR TD. You are definately starting on the right foot by looking here at M4C. Good Luck.
Ask yourself this, do you have a modicum of mechanical attitude, adept at fiddling with small springy thingies, PATIENT, curious on how things work, then acquire the parts and assemble (yes, assemble) a complete lower, then acquire a completed upper and put the two together.
If not, then buy a COMPLETE rifle.
For your first AR, buy the complete rifle. Like everyone else says, “Get the 6920.” A Colt 6920 is the easy answer, and gives you a known, proven rifle.
If you don’t buy the complete rifle, buy a complete factory upper and put it in a complete factory lower. (Which will save you the 11 percent “new gun” tax.) This is “assembling” a rifle, is pushing in two pins counts as assembly.
Later on you can buy one in parts and put it together.
Welcome aboard, read a lot, don’t be surprised if you get your pee pee whacked a time or two. There’s a ton of good information here.
Paying the 11% tax has benefits. Part of is used to build and maintain outdoor ranges and keeps ranges fees at those ranges low. Part is used for certain shooter courses. It’s not just some arbitrary excise tax
I didnt know that about the taxes. Interesting stuff. Colt or DDM4 are my top choices so far.
Im stilling seeing which way to go in terms of cost.
Unless you find some really good deals and will also buy used parts, don’t expect to really save a lot of money if you build. Doing a really quick comparo at PSA, the same/very close complete rifle that costs about $720 will cost you about $650 or so to build using the same parts. If you don’t already have the appropriate tools, you have to factor that in as well.
The only real bonus to building, as far as ‘saving money’ IMO, is getting precisely what you want without having ‘take off’ parts left over. (Or if you get a killer deal on something used.) It’s usually a wash or too close to call dollar for dollar with the equivalent quality parts vs. a complete rifle. Can you assemble a PSA M4-gery for less money than a Colt 6920? You certainly can. Is it ‘the same/equal?’ Therein lies the oft heated debate…
There is also the issue of what to do if you have problems. You may have warranty support on individual components, but troubleshooting will be up to you or paying someone to look at it.

Common and frequently-asked questions are what many of the stickied threads at the top of this subforum are FOR. Start reading. Narrow the field of your inquiry in the process of learning what makes an AR.
Do not presume that anything you have to ask is so unique that it’s never been thought of before by somebody else, that you can just post a new thread anyway, and be spoon-fed the info.
The Search functions are not difficult to use, either, be they for outright research or to check to see if you’re creating a duplicate thread to an existing one.
