Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle — a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan — on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass., 10 miles west of Boston.
Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation. The authorities said they believe the suspects had fired roughly 80 rounds in that shootout, in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was fatally wounded, the official said.
In one of the earlier reports it was reported the shooter shot an LEO on the MIT campus and stole the rifle from his trunk.
Believe me, if it was a legal gun the Obama Zombie Army would be hammering this fact. Since it was a stolen gun, and stolen from a slain LEO, they are not too ready to report on it.
I wonder if anyone will comment on all the M4 rifles that were being carried around the city by all the good guys?
EDITED TO ADD: Please, no one take this as cop bashing! I’m being sincere about it. Maybe those out there will finally see that these “weapons” actually have a practical use. And as you know…a good guy with a gun…
This is an old WWII Partisan tactic - use simple weapons to kill a soldier, then take his weapons. It would not surprise me to see this becoming a more common crime.
We must’ve been typing at the same time because you missed my edit. But yes, I agree with what you’ve said and am aware that this is used all the time…even in today’s wars.
When the dictator Marcos confiscated legally owned, registered guns when he declared Martial Law; the death rate for Police, the Military and armed Security shot up.
If they’re going off actual receiver markings Colt is marking the LE6920’s as “M4 Carbine” now. That’s how mine is marked and all the ones that were coming into Wal Mart here prior to Sandy Hook.
Yet tbey chose to steal them locally rather than buy them legally. Says a lot about ineffectiveness of gun laws. Criminals are more likely to get guns via stealing or other criminals than paying market rate for them.
I’m still waiting for confirmation that they actually had a select-fire AR. None of the anti-gun media know the difference between an M4 and an AR-15, and even if they did that wouldn’t stop them from lying in order to slant the story to promote their agendas. I’m pretty sure they had a rifle that had “M4” stamped on the lower, I seriously doubt they had a select-fire rifle. Even if they stole it from a cop. A campus cop in the state of Massachusetts (city of Cambridge) carrying a real M4? I don’t believe it.
This whole thread is actually somewhat pointless. Who cares if it was an M4, A 6920 or an AR15-A2 carbine? We all know that the media makes mistakes and doesn’t know the difference between a TEC-9 and an AK47.
Where I would care is if they had some news conference and actually displayed the weapon and someone was savvy enough to point out that it was in fact (semi-auto and legal/restricted depending on locale) or that the weapon was stolen from the officer and that gun control is moot.
ABC News is now reporting that the brothers only had a 9mm semi-auto Ruger handgun, which was recovered from the Watertown shootout. The pistol is now at the State Police Lab where they are trying to raise the obliterated serial number.
No weapons were recovered from the boat where the younger brother was captured, so that means he didn’t shoot himself. There was no BB gun, there was no AR type rifle, there was no M4 carbine. Oh and they got their gunpowder from a fireworks store, not a gun store.
The facts don’t really matter, they are still going to blame AR style rifles, semi-auto pistols, standard-capacity magazines, and gunpowder. Expect more of their attempts at “common sense” legislation as a result, and every network and newspaper will do their best to help sell the story.
