M4 AND .22 CONVERSION QUESTION

Greetings all, new to the site and want to say what a great wealth of knowledge! I do have a question and seek some advice from the all knowing of this site… I am doing my research for a purchase on an M4. I have noticed that they have a type of conversion that makes it able to fire a .22 round. For me this would be an ideal situation as it would give me the solid M4 but also give me the ability to fire it at the range more with the less expensive .22 rounds. This will also allow me to introduce my wife and son to shooting with the lighter round.

The questions that I have are:

  1. What is available to do this (conversion kits or just new upper)?
  2. Will all/most lowers accept a .22 conversion/upper?
  3. If not, what lowers will that I should look for?
  4. What should I be concerned about when looking for parts?
  5. And last but not least, are there any decent “entry level” recomendations that I should look for? I know I know, you get what you pay for. I would just rather not drop a ton of money up front for my first M4 but also I don’t want complete junk.

Thanks for reading and I am ready for you to let me have it… Oh, please be kind with all of the acronyms as I don’t yet know what they mean.
