M203 Mounting Info

Gents,

I have some questions about M203 GL mounting options. Aside from the standard method of mounting the M203 to the barrel with the barrel clamp/ lock wire deal is there any other way to mount one? Does anyone make a Picatinney rail mount? Is it even possible to mount an M203 to a free floating railed handguard?

IIRC, LMT makes a M203 already set up for rail mounting. Not sure if anyone makes an adapter for a “standard” M203 to rail mount.

No. 6,

Thanks. Actually I just found that a few minutes ago. Anyone aware of any adaptor to allow a standard M203 to mount as described?

Just checked KAC, nothing there in the way of adapters. I seem to remember seeing one somewhere. Lot of good, huh? I’ll keep checking my memory tapes, but I have to warn you now, I’m an old analog system, unlike today’s young-uns who all come from the factory with digital memory storage systems.

LMT makes the rail-mounted M203.

Problem solved. I told the powers that be rather than try and adapt the existing 203’s they have which entails us having to change our carbines around that they should just purchase the LMT rail mounted or a stand alone system that was already discussed. After more Chinese democracy the LMT rail mounts won.

what rail system are you intending to mount it to? not all can take the recoil of the 40mm…

A Yankee Hill free-floated rail system mounted on Bushamster 14.5 in. carbines. I considered this as well, but “corporate warriors” know more than me so I gave them options and they made the choice.

Gunz,

I wish my PMC allowed us to have 203s. They don’t even want us to have 7.62 anything, probably out of fear that if we shoot a vehicle, we actually may damage it. I miss the days when I kept a RPG in my room :).

I-Ninja,

Don’t worry this isn’t going to be a new standard. The contract specifically called for these or similar. They don’t even get the good candy for them.

it’s funny how the media makes PMCs out to be lawless cowboy banditos, blowing shit up and killing civilians and machine-gunning their way through school busses- when Ninja cant even pack a thirty cal.

the few incidents of abuse have become the perceived SOP.

The biggest concern in the “head shed” of my PMC is not damaging vehicles, since that is the big concern of the Client (US Government). It sucks to be a driver now, because if you have a road traffic accident, you may loose your job or be fined. The other problems are NDs and a lost of weapons thru neglect.

The cowboy days are long gone for the most part. We don’t maintain a bubble around our vehicles, but instead let the Iraqis merge with us.

YHM FF tubes aren’t going to hold up to a rail-mounted 203. The rail mounted m203 varient was intended for monolithic or other VERY sturdy rails… 416, SCAR varients, etc.

You might consider using the m203’s you have and:

  1. buy new uppers… cheaper than the railmounted m203’s and less ITAR hassles

  2. putting back a slipring/flat spring on the uppers you have, use the 203’s you have, and get a KAC or other compatable handguard

Another thing to consider…

Rail mounted M203s sit lower than barrel mounted ones.

This adds bulk to you set up and I personally don’t like it.

If you have a shorty AR, then a rail mount might be your only option however.
