M2 Ball Help

I have a 21" M2 with + 5 extension and barrel clamp. She is essentially Poa point of impact with slugs at 50 yards, so at this point I am reluctant to take her apart for fear of me losing the zero.

I am looking at the best way to put a sling and light on the shot gun.

I am thinking of putting a picitany rail on both sides of the nordic barrel clamp. I am thinking put a surefire tube light with pressure switch. Idea here is to get the flash light head as close to the barrel end to minimize shadowing. On opposite end I would have a point to mount sling. Then on butt stock I would have sling attached to butt stock with something like this.

Sling I plan to run is a vcas.

Do you have an better ideas for light/sling attachment methods?

Post a pick of the SG so we can see what we are working with here.

Jeezus! That looks like about a 17" LOP with that stock. It may be great for sporting clays but at the length of a M1 Garand I think I’d reconsider it, personally, before loading it up with a lot of other gear. What are you intending to use it for?

I have been happy with the products I have gotten from Mesa Tactical for both 870s and my Benelli M4. You may want to check their sling mounts out, as well as their Urbino Stock.

I would put one of these http://harristacticalonline.com/images/QD.jpg on the clamp. Why bother with the bulk of a rail and clamp?? This https://store.magpul.com/product/MAG333/119 would work in the stock if it is solid. BTW, the stock length looks fine to me. GH

I am thinking about using this on the mag tube…

Should have said earlier… Removing and replacing the barrel has nothing to do with accuracy. GH

As said, removing/replacing the barrel should not impact poa/poi. The poi will be affected when you go from a full plus five to the last shot in the mag tube. You will need to try it for yourself to determine the amount of shift as it will vary based on shooting style, body mass, etc.

I was under the impression that depending on how you installed the barrel clamp each time can effect poa poi? Is that not correct?

Assuming you re-install the clamp in the same place with the same torque on the clamping bolt, the effect should be minimal. The change in the poi from loaded to empty mag tube is due to the weight of the ammo out front. The way to determine how much is to shoot off a solid rest to see the change.

It depends on what sling you want to run, but the Magpul MSA screws onto the Nordic Comp clamp just fine. IIRC it’s threaded 10-32, I used either a 3/8 or 1/2" long screw and a brass split washer to level it out.

Works fine on my M2, I used a GG&G QD socket in between the stock and body for the other attachment point.

Didn’t see that you wanted specifically the VCAS sling. At one point Noveske made a QD socket plate for the Nordic clamp but it’s been out of stock for a while. If your going to with the BFG UWL put a chunk of bike inner tube over it so it does not make noise when it hits the barrel.

DO WHAT?? The position and tightness of the clamp have NOTHING to do with the accuracy of a shotgun!! We aren’t talking about a bench rest gun are we?? I would consider a smooth bore that shoots 10-20 MOA with slugs very accurate. I don’t care how many rounds are loaded in it. GH

I made the assumption that he didn’t do something wacko that really screwed up barrel/mag tube alignment. A smoothbore that won’t do better than 10-20 moa with any factory slug load has some serious problems or operator error. There is no doubt that slugs kick like hell and benchresting them is no fun. Unfortunately, that is the only way to determine the most accurate load. Part of the alleged lack of accuracy comes from trying to run away from the beating you know you are going to get. No, they are not as accurate as a rifled bore but within about 75-100 yards can be reasonably effective assuming you do your part.

This three shot group was shot at 25 yards today with an early 70’s Rem 1100 that is chopped to 19 in. and the gas ports opened up just enough to cycle trap loads. Temp was 40F and wind was 25 gusting to 40, I was sitting, back rested against the car.

If you don’t think having a full plus five mag tube vs an empty tube will have an effect, all you have to do is try it for yourself.

NO picture. GH

Working on it.

My m2 is nice and accurate with slugs and that is why I was concerned about taking it apart. But if taking it apart won’t affect the poi then I am not as concerned about taking it apart.
