I’m in the process of getting a low mileage Colt M16A1 (my first!). I plan to change it from a 20 inch fixed stock version to the same configuration as my other 3 SBRs: 10.5 to 11.5 barrel, AAC M4-2000 mount, H2 buffers and sliding stock. I don’t plan to do any crazy 100 round mag dumps but rather controlled bursts. What’s the expected round count before the barrel is prematurely toasted? I have a LWRC 10.5 upper that I like. But if it’s gonna burn out the barrel in less than 5000 rds, I will get the LMT MRP piston 12.5 inch instead. At least I can swap out the barrel for $700 without to much fuss. Thanks.
I am going to say 15,000 to 25,000 rounds if it is fully chromed.
I believe 15K of unabused use for a military chromelined barrel would be a good number as HM says.
When are you going to shitcan it? You’ll get good function long after it shoots 5 inches at 100 yards.
