M16 Upper/Lower Question

I tried to search for this but didn’t come up with my answer.

How do you get a modern upper on a Military surplus M16?

This one has the triangular hand guards and is a full rifle.

I can’t recall at the moment if it had a brass deflector and forward assist.

I know something isn’t matching up size wise with the upper and lower, I just couldn’t find a thread on how to rectify it.

I would like to shorten it on both ends.

Also, will a standard LMT, VLTOR, BCM Milspec complete carbine stock kit work for the stock part?

If both the upper and lower are both mil spec they will snap right together. If something is out of spec or you are using big hole Colt lower/upper and a mil spec upper/lower and are trying to mate it they will not fit with out an adapter for the Colt “big hole” at the front of the upper or lowere which ever is the case. You can buy the adapter from Brownells.

Thanks. The FA lower is US Gov Surplus transferred to an LE Agency that is pretty old(60/70’s era?) and the upper is one of any of my current Mil Spec uppers that fit current production Milspec / Colt Lowers .

We have a pair of surplus A1’s with LMT 10.5" uppers. They fit perfectly. What upper are you using?

Do your Colt uppers have the normal push pins or is the front pin the large pin?

Guys, I got it to fit just fine the second time out. I’m not sure what I was doing wrong the first time? Thanks for telling me to try it again.

The lower coupled with my Noveske 10.5/AAC M42000 ran like a top. I tried my BetaMag too for the 1st time and it ran perfectly.

I need a damn decicated photographer when I go and shoot. Apparently I’m the only one who can work a camera, so I don’t get many personal shots unless I breakout the tripod. I guess maybe these DSLR’s are intimidating to people and the 15 second crash course just doesn’t cut it. I didn’t get many of the other guys because of the limited amount of working space with the sun directly overhead. I know , whine , whine , whine.

I’ve got some vids but I need to cut the dead space out before I upload them and both my video editors won’t trim a .MPG for some reason.
